Triple 8

By HistoryGuy, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Poe Dameron

Proton Torpedoes

R2-D2

Luke Skywalker

Wingman

Proton Torpedoes

R2-F2

Either

Airen Cracken

Cluster Missiles

OR

Lt. Blount

Veteran Instincts

Ion Missiles

I tried this once with Lt. Blount and almost won. What do you think? Change Blount for Cracken? Keep Blount and try again? Or scrap it altogether?

I dig the ordnance, Sir. Though Blount's auto-hit ability is neat, I think you'd get more mileage out of Airen. The ability to give Luke or Poe a focus token on top of their proton torpedo attack is powerful indeed. Or even just getting Poe his everFocus so he can act like he's Skywalker the rest of the turn.

In the moment I feel like you are balancing several prime targets, rather than having one clear priority. Makes for an interesting joust.

If I may ask, who did you keep up front for the first volley?

Poe Dameron. With his ability to regain shields, I felt he could the brunt of the first attack. Then Luke was in the middle and Lt. Blount was bringing up the rear. I'm a very defensive player by nature, but I have the ordnance for when I'm ready to hit hard.

If you want to make missiles/torps work, you need predator. The fact that you can't modify dice otherwise makes them crummy for their points, but predator helps offset that (not to mention, it keeps damage output strong throughout the match)

Here's my suggestion:

Cracken w/ wingman & ion pulse missile = 24

Luke w/ predator & proton torpedo = 35

Poe w/ predator, plasma torp & R2-D2 = 41

100

Ion pulse missile gives you some control, especially helpful against large-based ships. Wingman because you seemed to like it, although I think veteran instincts is best on Cracken (but no longer triple 8). Predator makes sure that Poe & Luke don't give you an overly disappointing torpedo barrage, and they continue to hit hard for the rest of the game. Proton torp goes to Luke since he doesn't have Poe's ability to modify a focus on attack.

My only problem is I don't have plasma torpedoes or predator. My list is purely with what expansions I have. The only card I have is VI that isn't from one of my expansions.

Well then! If I were you, I know what I would be asking Santa this year... :P

VI on cracken does allow two proton torpedoes instead of the plasma, btw

I've used plasma torpedoes before and I don't care for them because I've found they are only fully useful against large based ship with lots of shields. Otherwise they are just ok. The only other torpedoes I've had amazing success with is the Advanced Proton Torpedoes. I've consistently gotten five hits and even a few crits with it.

The idea behind this rebel aces list is Poe is flexible, maneuverable and a tank with R2-D2. Luke is very strong will evade dice. Lt. Blount can remove stealth devices and a guaranteed hit with his ion pulse missiles to set up for a massive attack against large based ships. But Airen Cracken would give actions to Luke and Poe. Twice in one turn with cluster missiles. I'll try it next time I play.

Don't discount Plasma Torpedoes just because you won't get the extra shield bonus on every attack with them. They only cost 3 points and that's not bad for a 4 die attack on it's own. Not saying they are a must play or anything but what they are for their value is pretty darn okay! :D
