When I hear "the problem with X is that it's situational" what I hear is "the problem with X is that I have to plan to use it instead of just do it every time". Decisions and choices and trade offs are what make games fun and interestimg.
I agree with you 100%.
This is why I love Genericwing so much. You want double modified attacks? You think ahead and TL something that you'll have in arc next turn, and then combo that with a focus next turn. Not, "Welp, I rolled 4 blanks. I get a free target lock from FCS, and I choose to activate Gunner. Oh look, 3 hits. I'll 'spend' my FCS lock that I immediately get back to change that to a focus, which I will change to a hit with my focus. Since I performed an attack, I get a free cloak action, and since I did 2 hits and a crit to your TIE Fighter I get a free focus."
Genericwing is the best way to play the game. You want to cloak? Well, you won't be able to attack that interceptor that may park in front of you.
You want to SLAM? Well you're at 2 PS, you better be good at prediction.
You're flying 5 Autothruster Interceptors? They're all at PS 1. You can leverage your excellent mobility but you have to think ahead. Not, "Lol boost barrel roll focus" after you've seen where everything has moved to.
