Lando rides again!

By banjobenito, in X-Wing

Looking through reliable stress mechanics for our new little friend, Ezra, EI sticks out like a sore thumb. Lando is one of my favourite characters, and it pains me to see him utterly absent from most games of X-wing. I think he could be a lovely combo for Ez ...

So picture the situation: He finds himself in obvious trouble, with EU Vader shaping up for a range1 attack, a terrible place to end up... Here goes nothing!

Ez can take an evade, and EI to trigger Lando: now, normally Lando's huge weakness is his Random nature, but here he guarentees Ezra a reusable defensive focus token, of sorts, on top of his rng shenanigans. Lets assume a decent roll for him - evade and focus. ezra is now sitting very pretty, with offensive and defensive focus useage and two evade tokens. Top the build off with some inevitable predator goodness and a cheap dorsal turret to shoot back with and there you have it: a solid alrounder ship for 32pts, full of tanky lando goodness!

As with all predictions of too be released ships, it depends on the dial. If the shuttle has the greens of a Y-Wing, few people will be using it to voluntarily take stress.

That said, I like the Lando idea. It's a fun card and I love trying to fit Lando in wherever I can.

Here I was wondering how EI would trigger Lando when I realized you were talking about Lando crew. :D.

I (mildly) disagree, flux! Ezra is one of only a few ships to not be fazed if he's forced to sit on a stress token - he's still got that predator reroll and defensive focus action. Obviously, he wants to clear and start up the ol' Lando Casino again, but it's not remotely similar to Whisper Poe or Soontir being forced to keep stress. It's one of the reasons I think he'll do nicely in the current stresshog meta.

I know, right? No one EVER takes Lando crew - that's why I'm excited by this build option.

From another perspective, EI is one of the few cards that produce stress and is allowed on a ship without EPT or astromech slots. In other words: EI/Lando/Kanan becomes an option for the VCX (assuming none of the pilots have an EPT). With Advanced Sensors, you can clear stress the same turn.

I think Lando crew is more prevalent than Lando pilot though. :D.
