Sarlaac states?

By LolKnight, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

just curious.

Solid. Wyoming.

Well a Sarlacc at its first stage is a pod descending upon an innocent planet. Then it burrows deep beneath the surface and hatches, the second state. Then it grows and sticks out it's tentacles, the third state.

Do you mean states? or Stats? There are no official stats for a Sarlaac. In my games, I would treat it as an environmental hazard, rather than a combative beast.

The Felucia levels in The Force Unleased, are good examples of using a Sarlaac.

Yeah, becasue to kill it you'd probably need either lots of explosives or to dig it out of the ground. And for that you need something like this:

Oops sorry I meant stats.

A Sarlaac is more like an environment then a creature to be statted. I might give the tentacles some basic Strength and Durability stats, but otherwise it's a giant plot device.

Over on the d20radio network order 66 podcast has Sarlac stats. it is in the NPC Deli episode.

Nuke it from orbit. Its the only way to be sure.

If your buddy gets eaten, hover over it and dump in a crate of black pepper and a drum of ipecac.

just....just imagining a sarlac vomiting like the episode of family guy. THe square miles it would take up. Though reading earlier post now, that the seed falls to a planet, is that how tatooine became a desert world? the sarlac is sucking the planet dry and dead

Yeah I would agree to that. Just remember: If you stat it, they will find a way to kill it. Just for the bragging rights. Dumping a cargo full of explosives right in there or whatever. I'd handle things like that more akin to an earthquake; none of them can really do anything about it, it spices things up a notch and you can't shoot it in the head. Tentacle stats are fine by me, maybe players could fight off the advancing grasp or something like that.

But truly killing a Sarlaac? Hm. Only if they actually plan this for a reason other than it being there.

I agree. I mean if you would kill it for a trophy what would you take? That CGI beak?

I think it was mentioned in the old KOTOR games that there used to be an ancient civilisation that used technology that destroyed that planet, and there is still some form of energy or radiation that lingers on the planet and makes everything go kaputt faster then elsewhere in the galaxy. That's why the Tusken don't use technology and attack people (who do).

Since this is a tale told by an elder of the sandpeople or a jawa, don't remember exactly, it is rather mysterious and the energy/radiation is not clearly discussed/explained and it has been quite some time since I played that game.

Even wrose than "If it has stats, they can kill it," is the one thing I've not seen stated yet;

If it can be killed, it can be captured.

I think there would be the Sarlacc's biology in the way. As far as I know it needs to stay underground lest it perishes.

It'd make one hell of a potted plant, that's for sure. Audrey Jr.

"Capturing" this thing wouldn't even be that hard I figure. Just build a fence around it and say "This stuff is mine". Who's going to argue with you about a hectar of sand and the pit of one thousand years worth of digestion? Moving could be an issue though. Hm... No, I better just stop here.

What Tractor rating do you think we'd need?

Well.. the thing IS huge, but so are starships. Considering it is buried in sand and probably somewhat attached to that (even if only emtionaly), it would have to be something a little stronger. Bascially if you can stop an X-Wing that is blasting full throttle, you can pull out the potted plant of doom. It's not like it will expect that.

On the subject of killing the thing...both demolitions and chemical/biological attacks could/should work.

I could definitely see a rebel group stranded on a planet surrounded by sarlacc, and the PCs need to track down some scientist who has developed a synthetic virus designed specifically to attack the sarlacc biology, then figure out how to weaponize it and deliver it to the beasties so that they can rescue their friends.

Of course, the materials needed to synthesize the virus might be part of a story unto itself...

you sir just gave my players one heck of a bad day (in the undefinded future) :D

Sorry I just had to.. I couldn't resist...

They have been done on the order 66 podcast. Episode 45. NPC Deli. Also has Krayt Dragon stats.
