The Will of the Wise

By Authraw, in Strategy and deck-building

I've had this deck brewing for a few weeks now as I thought through some of the new discard mechanics. A friend of mine used a similar deck for the Murder at the Prancing Pony event, and I was impressed with how well it worked, so I wanted to try building one myself.

It's been pretty successful so far, beating 4 of the 5 Nightmare decks I've tried on the first try without any modifications--and I probably only lost Journey to Rhosgobel because I didn't put in any healing cards. :)

Strategy
I typically mulligan for Galadriel's Mirror. Galadriel usually ends up exhausting to use her ability, only switching to use Nenya later in the game once the board state is established. Elrond is the main defender, while Glorfindel is the main attacker. Some scenarios I have to use Glorfindel's healing ability, but in others it's not as important and I can use the resources for other things.
I've been playing it solo, but it would probably work well as a multiplayer deck too.
The deck definitely lacks resource generation. I would certainly consider switching in the new Arwen hero once she's out, but I don't know who I would cut--all three heroes are pretty important for the deck's functioning.

So...who quests early on? Allies only?

Typically Glorfindel and some ally turn 1. It doesn't usually take too long to get either Unexpected Courage or Light of Valinor down so that Elrond can start pulling double duty.
