Opinion on possible competition build?

By Monkeytail2001, in X-Wing Squad Lists

My local gaming store is running a competition in 2 weeks time with 100pt static build. With the fact I'm still fairly new to the game after a couple of weeks, I wouldn't mind some folks casting an eye over a build I've made. Just so you know what cards I have, I play Rebels only. I have the Force Awakening starter kit with Rebel Aces, K-Wing, Y-wing, A-Wing, B-Wing, HWK-290 and Z-95 expansions.

The squad I have is this:

HWK-290 - Roark Garnet

  • Blaster Turret
  • Jan Ors
  • Moldy Crow

Z-95 - Lieutenant Blount

  • Deadeye
  • Assault Missiles

B-Wing - Keyan Farlander

  • Outmanoeuvre
  • Plasma Torpedoes
  • Adv. Proton Torpedos
  • Ion Cannon
  • Enhanced Scopes
  • B-Wing/E2
  • Recon Specialist.

The idea was to have a swarm killer in Blount and support in both the HWK and B-Wing. Also the B-Wing is obviously my heavy hitter. I realise that Blount is usually seen as weak (after spending tonight Googling) but I think if I fly a tight formation he could be good enough to wipe a swarm, which I know at least one Empire player will play at the least. Mainly the store owner as I overheard him the other day. Having the HWK be Roark with Jan Ors means Blount fires first in combat and when he moves I'd have him perform a focus which gives him 2 of them. If I keep him in range of the B wing I'd swap one of the focus tokens for an evade helping him survive a wee bit better. On top of that Deadeye makes the assault missiles Attack: Focus and he can't miss. If I need a heavy hitter then I have the B wing so hopefully it'll be versatile enough for non swarm builds too.

What's the thoughts on this build?

Your list is way too fragile. It is very easy to kill Keyan Farlander, and then you have no way to kill stuff effectively.

My suggestion is to take 4 ships and cut out some of the excess:

Roark w/ twin laser turret, Jan Ors & moldy crow = 30

Blount w/ assault missile = 22

2 blue squad pilots w/ FCS = 24 x 2

100

Its still not super competitive, but you will have much better success with a pair of generic b-wings than Keyan alone. This increases your firepower and durability significantly. The only downside is that there is not a point left over to fit deadeye onto blount. However, since you are taking the assault missiles primarily for swarms (who have lower pilot skill), this shouldn't be too much of a problem (deadeye is more of a 'nice to have' than an 'essential', anyway).

Yeah, Blaster Turret isn't particularly effective, but Twin Laser Turret's are frightening weapons.
