Does anybody find it mildly amusing that FFG have wholeheartedly embraced new ships from a new period set 30+ years after the OT, but are unwilling to even entertain the thought of anything from the prequel trilogy?
I know there's some massive hate for the movies, but some of the ships could be interesting additions to the game. It's not like they can say the ships are too old. The Firespray and the YT-1300 date back to then and appeared in those movies.
Actually no considering the direction the Star Wars franchise has taken both FFG and Disney. The Star Wars franchise has propelled FFG to 2nd place on the table top gaming miniatures market only being bested by Warhammer 40k. That's rather astonishing in a few short years they have almost caught up to leading competitor over a decade old. As for Disney they are doing what they do best, buy an IP with a cult following (such as Marvel) and make it have a broad appeal to general audiences all while collecting their cut from the merchandising. For Disney they see X-wing as another way to make some additional money through royalties while generating more hype and promotion for their new movies. Since they own the Franchise FFG has to get within Disney's good graces to continue the X-wing series, and if that means making ships from Disney movies/shows (TFA, Rebels, Clone Wars) then FFG will do exactly that. Even if FFG has to pay royalties to Disney they still make alot of profit from product sales.
So will FFG make more ships from the new movies, of course because that's what Disney wants and as long as they have the licenses from Disney they will continue to do whatever Disney tells the to do. Will FFG start making prequel ships, only if Disney wants it and that depends if Disney thinks they could make some money from the prequels (such as releasing a complete overhaul of episodes 1 through 3).
