Opinions On This Scum Build?

By Underachiever599, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, I recently went up against this Scum build with my Defenders, and the three games we played against each other were all landslide victories for one player or the other. So, I'm just curious what your thoughts would be on this list:

Guri - Starviper - 30

Outmaneuver - 3

Advanced Proton Torpedoes - 6

Virago - 1

Stealth Device - 3

Fire Control Systems - 2

Glitterstim - 2

N'dru Suhlak - Z-95 - 17

Cluster Missiles - 4

Lightning Reflexes - 1

Glitterstim - 2

Laetin A'shera - M3-A - 18

Heavy "Scyk" Interceptor - 2

Stealth Device - 3

Mangler Cannon - 4

Total=98 points

When he flew it, he tended to deploy Guri and A'shera roughly in the middle, trying to close to range one with Guri as quickly as possible, while N'dru would try to flank from one of the board edges and make use of his ability and Glitterstim to shoot off a modified Cluster Missile attack that threw out a total of 8 red dice. In the first game, I got a lucky shot with Rexler Brath (4 red hits against 0 evades) on Guri, then finished her off with Vessery before she ever got to fire. From there, it was an easy matter to destroy A'shera, who just isn't defensive enough to survive focused Heavy Laser Cannon fire. N'dru did manage to deal a lot of damage to Vessery with his Cluster Missile/Glitterstim combo, but it wasn't enough to bring Vessery down. It was over by the fifth round.

The second game, he deployed in much the same manner, and this time managed to actually get into range 1 of Brath with Guri before I could gun her down. I rolled poorly on my green dice, and Brath took a major hit from that, and was then brought down by Laetin's Mangler Cannon in the first round of combat. Vessery survived a little longer, but the Mangler Cannon combined with the Cluster Missles did take him out of the game before I could finish off any of his ships.

The third game felt a lot like a repeat of the first, but with less mistakes. Guri was shot down once more from me rolling 4 hits and my opponent blanking on his evades, A'shera's Stealth Device wasn't enough to allow her to activate her ability, and N'dru just doesn't have it in him to take on Brath and Vessery solo. Another one-sided victory.

The impression I got from his squad was that it can pack a real punch. Between Guri's ability to get a focus when at range one of an enemy ship allowing her to fully modify her Advanced Proton Torpedoes, and N'dru's ability to toss out 8 red dice with Cluster Missiles when he's far enough away from his allies, this squad has the potential to do some serious damage. However, all of that heavy hitting ability seems to be cowering behind three relatively squishy ships, at least when I'm shooting Heavy Laser Cannons at them.

What do you guys think?

I don't like the M3-A ship at all.

Seem too many points on a ship near the TIE Fighter, and you can't use it similar, by number, i mean.

Their named pilot abilities, to me, seems kinda off. Serisu seems ok, but the ship is too fragile to work, at least for me.

Guri seems fine, along N'dru, but i would use him with Predator, you never know, then would probably use a Y-Wing + TLT.

To me putting 47 points into a ship with 5 hit points, that's ps 5 is too much. Guri has a great ability and the starviper is a good ship, but as the centerpiece of a 3 ship list I'd be concerned with her getting focused down before she ever got to use her APT. I would think that if you flew this list consistently it would go the way your 3 games went, where 1 out of 3 you got to pull off the combo of Guri's APT and N'dru's cluster missles. Still it looks like a fun list to fly.

I think your impressions are spot on.

I've usually run VI on Guri and no Glitterstim (which I don't have but would be helpful), which is a pretty effective ship. However, the rest of the team could use some changes in my opinion. Kavil with TLT and Unhinged Astromech gives you a pretty maneuverable heavy hitter that can also take damage, and would be great. Then, I'd run two cheaper Z-95s or Scyks, just the basics, for some extra health at less punch.

Running the above Guri with VI replacing Outmaneuver, and backed by the Kavil - TLT - Unhinged plus 2 Binayre Pirates is a more robust list, albeit at the cost of some of that heavy damage potential.
