Do anyone have any ideas of cheap models to use when playing out a combat encounter? I love the little tokens you got in the beginners game but want more or cheap little models to use. When I google it all I find is miniature games where the models cost atleast 5$ each which I find abit too pricy since I don't play miniature games. Any thoughts?
Using miniatures/tokens
You can make your own tokens for your local game using artwork from the internet. There are a few token programs that will quickly crop and output the art you find in the right size and shape. Someone here (?) suggested mounting them on washers after you cut them out of cardstock.
Depends on what persona you want, the WotC mini game can be found for pretty cheap. A quick glance at CSI shows a bunch of rebel storm minis for about a buck. Yeah your Boba Fetts are going to cost, but that should get you Stormtroopers and Rebels and the like.

I hhave tones of WotC star wars minis and they work great and have most of what one needs.
In my games, I wouldn't be against using either miniatures or LEGO figures... except there isn't an option for every species playable in the game. The completionist inside of me objects.
Using the printout option (surprised Maps of Mastery hasn't made a set of printouts!) you can glue them to cheap plastic Poker chips too, a $20 set will give you over 100 chips to use, and as a bonus you can use some of them for tracking wounds/strain ETC.
I use glass pebbles, such as this

Tokentool from rptools.net is a great tool to easily make your own tokens. Print them out and paste them to cardboard or bottle caps (I like the latter because they're a good size, they're sturdy, and they don't require extra cutting).
Thanks for all the great ideas guys!
wow, these are some amazing ideas! I personally use a mixture of tokens from the starter boxes, minis from the various mini games, and printed tokens that I have laminated and pasted to coins (these haven't made the rounds yet, soon). Kudos to the ideas folks!

Mostly paper miniatures, they look good ![]()
You can also use dice from other games, or plain d6s, if you’ve got enough spares available. You can use dice color/shape/size as indicators of which team someone is on, and then what number is up to indicate which member of that team is which.
If you’re gaming at an FLGS, that kind of helps. ![]()
I can't remember the name of the company I used but there are several online retailers who sell generic board game pieces - pawns, meeples, glass beads, and the like. I bought a big bag of multicolored plastic pawns (200+) for five bucks. If an RPG I run doesn't have affordable miniatures, I pull those out and tape little flags to each indicating who is who.

Well, I would definately say Lego is not a cheap option. Lego don't just sell the minifigs on their own so you're either buying a large set to get the figure you want or paying a lot to get just the figure on eBay. I know this to be true because I do exactly that. ![]()
I am also a completionist so getting one of every species is pretty tough, but you'd be surprised how extensive the range is, especially with all the Clone wars stuff. Plus if your standards are not ultra tight you can acheive most things. I recently built a Pantoran using Aayla Secura's head and a pink hair piece from normal Lego. I also have a few non-Star Wars Lego minifigs acting as stand in. Werewolf you say? Nonsense, it's a Shistavanen. Or maybe a Bothan.

Oh, I can definitely get a lot of options, yeah, but a few are nearly impossible to replicate. Arcona, Chevin, Drall and Selonians come to mind. Gands are iffy. A few others. And the TMNT Master Splinter head makes for an excellent Bothan.
