NOVA Squadron Radio – Episode 38: 2016 Meta Preview Show

Yeah, going back, I think I misinterpreted Sable's comment about how "You definitely wouldn't want Soontir Fel touching this ship." I had interpreted that statement to be "you" as the Ghost player, not "you" as the Soontir player.

Sable Gryphon, a.k.a. Mark Fletcher is on the Scum and Villiany podcast. It can be harder to tell who he is without seeing him in his Steampunk attire...

You guys were talking about what Imps have to look forward to and what they have going for them. In my eyes, Imps have had and will get more quality filler. We've already heard a lot of discussion about crack shot swarms. With all the new low point unique TIEs, there will be ample synergy and difficult enemy target priority. The trick is how does this list style fair with MoV. Ace + elite mini swarm has been a more successful Imperial archtype than for other factions.

Also. Omega Leader with Comm relay and Juke is going to be awesome. Get the evade 1st turn. Lock on 2nd and you have a scary little bugger. All in one expansion too, so new players can jump right in with it.

Well maybe I should rephrase that in that the Imperials do not have a whole lot of NEW stuff to look forward to. Sure, TIE Swarm is still out there, elite plus mini-Swarm is out there. Sure, RAC + elite is still floating out there. For me, all of those builds are SO yesterday though. And, played out enough that everyone knows how to beat them.

I want new, good toys to play with! lol.

I had a harder time noticing who he was OUT of the Steampunk attire! When he was in street cloths I didn't know who he was!

Love ya Mark!

I think we've already established that my listening comprehension abilities are not at their best today.

(Somehow, I had Sean mixed up with Sable. Apologies to both of them!)

Yea, one of my favorite builds is My "Soontir Swarm" with new ties it should be fun.

Paul seems to be hot on that idea as well. Both int he Pre-Worlds show and this one he recommended that list. To be honest I am going to try it and see how I do. I am not sure it's my Store Championship list as there are some many other lists that counter it, but it will be interesting.

Personally I'm waiting for my F/o Blister so i can run Whisper Omega "el presidente" Leader and Jax for some annoyingly good times.

I'll take the blame for missing the Phantom on Kallus. Because the more I look at it, the more that should have just jumped off the show notes at me.

We will re-visit that once the full cast is back in 2016.

Looking forward to OutRyder Cup 3 right now!

Speaking as someone with little or no knowledge of any of the expanded universe stuff, and given mention on the show about thematic cards...Kallus on a Phantom seems very characterful and "assassiny" (if that's even a word!).

Certainly wins on cool points.

And I agree with the comments that the empire seem to be missing a few tricks with regard to those dirty rebels, but I'm super happy that the swarm is getting a bit of love. I like to think it's not accidental that swarms are getting a boost (or at least more variety) at the time when both other factions are getting new big ships. As I remember swarms traditionally put the hurt on the big guys..

havent listened to the cast yet, but i can imagine they hit on the Inquisitor (the sexy beast he is as a topic) I feel like he will fit in to a lot of lists that will do some severe amounts of damage granted its only one ship but im feeling like theres something sexy hidden on that dial we know nothing of.

Listened part way so far, but a couple thoughts:

I actually agree with this. Outside of the phantom, they lack a unique mechanic (and that will only be the case until Wave 8 hits) and their design space is smaller overall since they lack upgrade the turret, astromech, and illicit upgrade slots. I'm not saying they need those slots exactly but I think the lack of those items is a reason a lot of their ships feel similar. I'm excited about the Inquisitor, but he's really just

Speaking of design space, I wonder if Youngster basically means that we're not going to actually see a viable "action" ept since any that become useful on single ship will become pretty disgusting on a TIE swarm.

It's not completely unique to Imperials, but they do have way more access to maneuverable high PS ships. Wave 8 brings Omega Leader and the Inquisitor, which will be strong in the mid to high twenties.

Great show fellas. I only recently started listening and I've gone through 5-6 episodes already.

There was some talk about the direction of imperials on the latest episode. I agree with everything you all said and I would have liked to hear a bit more about Kallus on the phantom. Also it was mentioned that in order for the Imperials to be competitive, most squads for the Empire are based on Ace pilots like Vader and Fel. (I'm sure the inquisitor will be added to that top tier shortly)

Besides the tie swarm and decimator or phantom lists...that's about all the empire can provide. My point is, its time FFG bring back the Defender in a big way. I would like to see a viable solution from them that draws players to the defended in a way that its hard to choice between an arch dodging Ace of a durable defender. It could really turn Imperial lists upside down and refresh our mind set when building imperial lists.

I cant wait though to use the Inquisitor with PTL, AT, and title.

Thanks for your time fellas and enjoy your holidays.

I didn't meant to imply I wasn't excited for those (manueverable aces in particular is a reason I fly imperials), but comparatively there's not much in the way of any new dynamic being added to the Imperials even if upcoming releases are breathing fresh life into old.

After hearing this. I'm convinced that the card paul designed for the Wave 8 is Boba Fett. I could hear him wanting to say how awesome the card he made was, but just not allow. He mentioned every card but Boba, so I sure it's his card. I cannot wait to see it.

Our store has been using ordnance as follows:
Bonus for Target Selection:
Torpedoes = Add +1 automatic Crit to your attack dice versus large or huge targets only,
Missiles = Add +1 Automatic Crit to your attack dice versus small targets
These bonus dice cannot be modified in anyway.
We also allow all dice to be re-rolled as if you had a target lock.
Works pretty well
We also tried the following:
Subtract 1 green die when defending against Ordnance.

I just thought of a List and I'll post it in the Squad forums, but i figured it could be here for you guys to talk about next time (haven't listened to the episode yet so you might have)

Vessery (because i want defenders to work, also synergy to come)

Vet Instincts

HLC

Omega "el presidente" Leader

Juke

Comms relay

Inquisitor

PTL

v/1 (title)

Autothrusters

All PS8 all love Target locks and (unless something is screwy with the Dial of the Inquisitor) all very maneuverable ships.

The Defender's easy enough to fix. Just give it a title that lets you fire both weapons in the same round.

I like this. It may be a bit overpowered but that's the general idea how to fix it.

I really want to see the Defender get some love!

ever since Colzet was released ive been trying him with Brath and Stele

its a real Crit-storm.

In principle something like this might work, but getting Defenders balanced correctly is going to be a more difficult task than rebalancing most ships. The underlying mathematics of such a fix is more complicated than fixes for other ships. In addition, Vessery is already so much better than any of the other pilots that any universal fix is likely to make him overpowered well before the generics become viable. Ideally there will be a two-pronged fix like with the TIE Advanced that deals with the generics and named differently.

I thought it was common knowledge that Paul Heaver had designed Boba. Maybe I just imagined it.

I assume he will do something similar to when he is piloting, some sort of defensive re-roll. Which is of course the one thing scum as a whole needs. They have all the crew in the world for dishing the hurt, just nothing for survivability.

But ffg love to suprise...so who knows?

Well, apart from Paul Heaver obviously.
