Bossk is collecting theoretical dust in my collection

By Issalbotproto, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have owned my YV-666 for ever and still haven't used it (I'm not the best scum player but I really like the ship) I really like Bossk he's my favorite bounty hunter, but I can't seem to make a list using him as a pilot or crew member that seems fun so far.

Then I kind of realized I might be over thinking it all and I just need to try out a list and see how it goes.

Any advice on changes or otherwise would be cool and much appreciated.

Talonbane Cobra (34)
Kihraxz Fighter (28), Wingman (2), Engine Upgrade (4)

Torkhil Mux (25)
HWK-290 (19), Twin Laser Turret (6)

Bossk (41)
YV-666 (35), “Mangler” Cannon (4), Outlaw Tech (2)

Try this one:

Talonbane Cobra (31)

Inertial Dampeners (1)

Swarm Tactics (2)

Bossk (48)

Hound's Tooth (6)

Greedo (1)

K4 Security Droid (3)

Outlaw Tech (2)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Cartel Marauder (21)

Inertial Dampeners (1)

I'm willing to try this yet, still don't have time to play with ppl around here.

I've had a lot of fun (and success) flying Bossk with K4, Engine, Daredevil, and Mangler. And the Mangler isn't actually that necessary -- with Engine and Daredevil, Bossk is very good at staying at range 1, and 4 dice are generally better than Mangler even with Bossk's ability. With Daredevil, Bossk can essentially Tallon Roll with a 3 hard and then Daredevil. Combined with his 180 degree arc, he's a surprisingly good arc dodger. The specific list I've been using is:

Bossk + Engine Upgrade + Daredevil + K4 Security Droid + Mangler Cannon (49)

Palob Godalhi + Twin Laser Turret (26)

N'dru Suhlak + Lone Wolf + Cluster Missiles + Glitterstim (25)

Another good way to use Bossk (as crew this time) is: Trandoshan Slaver + Bossk + Gunner + Tactician. For 37 points, you get a beefy ship that will almost always hit and can double-stress aces.

Talonbane has always seemed a bit fragile for his cost to me. If you want to really take advantage of him, though, and use the YV-666 (though not as Bossk this time), you could try something like:

Latts Razzi + K4 Security Droid + Weapons Engineer (39)

Talonbane Cobra + Engine Upgrade + Glitterstim + Crack Shot (35)

Black Sun Ace + Glitterstim + Crack Shot (26)

If you want Bossk specifically, this would be a decent slim Bossk build to replace Latts with:

Bossk + K4 Security Droid + Calculation (39)

And of course the Black Sun Ace could be swapped out for a HWK with TLT like in your original list. I prefer Palob over Torkil -- especially when you're already attacking at high PS -- but Torkil has his advantages, too.

Best upgrade for him imo is k4 as it can be used even when you bump. Wingman/ outlaw is nice but I'd rather have it on palob than cobra. If you are running outlaw tech you should have on calculation and k4, its just more dice modifiers. Mangler is hard to use as its limited to only half your arc. I think you're on the right track tho. I've seen most people, including myself, flying him about 40 points with two ~30 points aces. Mostly k fighters and tlt hawks or ywings. I personally go palob and torkil tlt with recon and bossk opportunist k4. It's all about target priority, cobra would take some pressure off bossk.

These all look like great lists and/or YV-66 builds. I would love to try any of them out: they look fun. Thanks for sharing!

Bossk - Calculation, Outlaw tech

Xizor - Predator, AT

Pirates x2

This is a very fun list and it really opens up the dial for Bossk and allows him to use his ability almost every turn.

Moralo Eval (34)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

Bossk (2)

Gunner (5)

K4 Security Droid (3)

Inertial Dampeners (1)

The Soldiers will be able to help with the Untouchables, while Moralo will make his second shot really hurt, thanks to Bossk and Gunner. You could even drop the HLC to something more likely to miss.

Unfortunately Bossk is really over priced for what he brings to the table. Sure he can hit hard if you can push crits through, but those builds get expensive - in the neighborhood of 50 points. Unlike Rebels and Imperials the Scum have no mitigation tech in crew members. 12 HP behind 1 agility can go down really quick.

Instead of Bossk flying the ship i would recommend looking at the budget baller YV-666, the Trandoshan Slaver. Load him up with Gunner, Tactician, and Bossk Crew and you get a surprisingly lethal ship for 38 points, 36 if you don't think you need the tactician (psst you do, your range 2 arc is huge)

Hope I helped!

the "best" bossk loadout is

Slaver

*Gunner

*Bossk

by far the most reliable and economical YV you can field

With Daredevil, Bossk can essentially Tallon Roll with a 3 hard and then Daredevil.

Holy..... that's ridiculous! I approve! Especially with the K4 Security Droid to pick up a target lock when he clears off his stress.

I'd probably throw in a Tactician - if anything preferably to the Mangler Cannon - because if you're throwing the Tooth around the board like a drunken hummingbird, you'll be firing 'broadsides' quite a lot where you can't use a cannon, and dumping stress onto your targets means they won't be able to chase you effectively. ...
