Coming back to that Wampa hype...

By Varred, in X-Wing

Back when we saw Wampa everybody paired him up with Good Ol' Palpie because of the synergy they seem to have.

So Wampa says:'When attacking, you may cancel all dice results. If you cancel a KA-BOOM result, deal 1 facedown damage card to the defender'

Then Palpie says: 'Once per round, you may change a friendly ship's die result to any other die result. That die result cannot be modified again'

Everything is clickng right? But isn't canceling all die results a modification of those results?

Just asking because i'm fairly newb and pondering weather to buy gozanti and raider as my first huge ships and trying tu figure out possible builds.

Cheers

Varred

Cancelling dice happen at a different step than modifying them. They are distinct game terms and unless ffg messed up badly with wording the combo will work both raw and rai.

Also wampa + fcs colzet are flanker buddies for life!

I just shoved him with a bunch of Juke FOs and Crackshot howlie

so far, he's basically acted as the Biggs of the group

guess his ability is just that scary?

Hey, they are shooting at him, not Howlrunner. That is pretty amazing. Probably wrong decision, but good for you.

The list I wanna try once he's out

Wampa

Youngster with marksmanship

Howlrunner

Lt. Colzet with FCS

2 Obsidian Squadron Pilots

tbf, Howlie is never in a good spot to get shot

still, I thought they'd go for the FOs first to strip juke

Eh, I dunno. I mean, don't get me wrong - rerolling dice is great and all. But not having to CARE about rolling dice, or enemy shields, and just damaging hull directly?

That's pretty ridiculously powerful. I'd say he's a more important target than Howlrunner, yeah.

Fel and Vader are a little expensive, but it's perfectly possible to fit Wampa, Colzet, The Inquisitor and Palpatine in a Lambda in a list. Wonder if it'd be any good.

Depends on how good the inquisitor is. A good dial will mean a lot, and if somehow the inquisitor can take tie x1 and atc, hoooo boyyyy.

True, and to give another example why canceling the die results can't be considered a modification, think about Ion Canon Turrets or Twin Laser Turrets. You can spend a target lock and or focus to modify the results, but you still cancel the results on a hit and deal a single damage. If canceling dice results were dice modifications these upgrades wouldn't work.

You can have Fel, RGT, AT, Targeting Computer and still keep The Emperor, Colzet and Wampa

Inquisitor. Love him.

That's a really punchy imperial 4 ship list with some Ace potential and some scary combos.

Outside of lists with Howlrunner or the Emperor, just a little Targeting Computer would bring him up to 16.

Backstabber + Mauler Mithel are usually my 33 point filler, and they've always served me well.

When I add a third Tie, it is usually Night Beast.

Between Night Beast, Chaser, and Wampa, I think Night Beast is still the better option without support from other ships. Though Night Beast + Chaser would be pretty good synergy, Chaser wants high PS allies to hand him a free focus token as soon as possible in case he gets shot at.

Assuming he has the exact same dial as the Advanced, he is already a force to be recognized. With a better dial, he will be a staple.

And on such a lightweight ship, a worse dial is distinctly unlikely.

I'm kinda hoping for an X-wing vs Z-95 dial split, myself. I worry it might have fancy gimmicks, which would be troublesome.
