Sorry if this has already been asked, but with the Rebels show being canon now, and all of the inquisitors we've seen so far having the double bladed spinny lightsabers of death, how have you been building your inquisitors? Do you keep to the type represented in the show or do you make them your own?
Inquisitors and Lightsabers
I had initially designed the Inquisitor in our game with a double bladed lightsaber but since the show, I've decided to change it to the spinning blade. I'm also of the belief that they are meant more as an intimidation tactic than actual skilled use. I'll probably add setback to attacks made with it but add boosts to coercion checks. Might also power down the Inquisitor a bit too from the standard in the book.
Just curious if people are using single lightsaber users and such for their games or modeling them off of the ones in the series.
Most of my inquisitors had normal lightsaber. Some use other weapon like riffle. Not because 3 characters in a show use lightsaber frisbee dont mean all of them do. Vader himself doesnt after all.
Personally, I would just treat the windmill factor as a fluff justification for the Linked 1 quality. Best not to overcomplicate things if you don't have to, and in this case, you really don't have to.
There was an interview with Dave Filoni a while back where he cited the Grand Inquisitor's 'saber had the spin feature to allow him to replicate the barrage of attacks that Darth Maul could accomplish based on just sheer skill/aptitude.

The spinning saber feature also allows the Inquisitor to replicate the whole Bisect a Sith Lord effect like Maul, too!
(There's a reason we haven't seen Brothers 1-4)
I would probably treat a spin saber like a double ended sabre. But treat the spin as a immediate fear check upon first encountering it.
I would also probably allow inquisitors to gain boost dice on their check to represent how the saber makes it easier for them to wield, though I would make most of the basic inquistors fairly basic in abilities. e.g. A dedicated lightsaber combatant will probably have better ranks then an inquisitor. Or alternatively more difficult to wield, but grants defence dice (I prefer going through a round as a minute, thus the idea of a character having it on all the time doesn't gel with me.)
That being said, single sabers and more experienced wielders are cool. And even if they have the option not all characters find use in the double function all the time. 5th brother rarely uses it unless he's saber throwing.
Edited by LordbiscuitThe lower level inquisitors I have have been using double bladed but I don't care for the spinning and ignore it existing. My higher inquisitors have used single blade blade but utilize powers more or they have been Makashi duelist trained in Dooku's image. Had one or two 2 weapon inquisitors as well. One of them is a female apprentice to a high inquisitor, but is falling in love with a main pc (force sensitive assassin) and distracted her master so he and his 3 jedi allies could escape. She might be his savior or more trouble than he needs right now
I am of the mindset that you don't have to give everyone who is a Inquisitor get saber.
Last episode the two Inquisitors seem to be of a hierarchy when the female Inquisitor said yes brother 5 and he said something around the lines of sister 7. Which doesn't mean Inquisitors were at a Operah show and had a gift under their seat that all members get a saber. Also I'm sure recent "recruits" may be given a period to prove that they are trustworthy before given a powerful weapon. Now as a gm I always have this rule for myself. DO NOT PUT AN ITEM IN A GAME THAT YOU DON'T WANT A CHARATER TO POTENTIALLY HAVE EARLY. That said keep it simple or make sure your Npc's die falling off cliffs or pits of acid.
Its a mechanical device that replicates the technique known as saber ward.
To my mind, Inquisitors should be unique. I'm not a fan of the conformity of the Inquisitors in Rebels, I would want them to be individuals to a greater degree. That's how I use them myself - my Inquisitors are uniquely statted, equipped and motivated. Like any Sith or Jedi NPC would be in my games.
I for one like the unformatty of the inquisitors; kind of speaks a deeper message that they are neither Jedi or sith, but merely lapdogs of the empire trained exclusively to kill Jedi, but denied any real power, authority or teachings that would give them the ideology of a sith. Largely because I suspect that all of the inquisitors of current were stolen as children to be molded into their guarddog role, from their physical training to how they think to be the ideal weapon but nothing more then that. The lack of a weapon they have forged personally enforces this; because they either fitted the mold they were given or are destroyed
Makes me curious as to whether there are any inquisitors that contrast this though.
My thoughts on the Rebels Inquisitors (and how I'd head-canon it) is that they are one "branch" of the larger Inquisitorius. The Grand Inquisitor was like a field commander and his unit, being a unit that is much more frontline, uses said ridiculous spinning blades as a fear tactic. Just as with any army though, each unit is going to have different things that mark them as distinct. An Inquisitor that is more of an infiltrator won't be carrying a ridiculously large and conspicuous weapon, and one who specializes in assassination won't be using something as distinctive as a lightsaber, etc.
I personally hate those spinny things, so I just run my Inquisitors with regular Lightsabers, maybe a doublebladed.
But I guess it is just flavour after all, if you like it go for it, if you find them iffy, let it be
I have pretty sturdy suspenders of disbelief, but the spinny sabers are just dumb. My inquisitors never had em, never will.
Actually if they were used properly they would be fine.
The spinning of the blade creates a shield that deflects blaster fire much better then by hand.
The problem is how its shown in the show.
Offensively you would need to use move to hurl the spinning blade of death at people other wise it wouldn't work well.
Basically its a mechanical cheat to let them use a technique they weren't taught.
Palpatine must have learned a lesson with Asajj Ventress. He no longer gives his acolytes the training and skills needed to compete agasint him; should they decide to turn on him.
The spinning saberstaff is just a way to compensate so they can do their job effectively. They seem to work well against padawans and upstarts. For the stronger and more resilient foes, he sends out Vader.

This actually makes sense.
I figured that the Inquisitors are relativeley weak and if they thrive for more power are disposed off.
I mean the High Inquisitor (or what his Rank was) was killed by Kanan, who was only a Padawan and probably didn't train his Jedi Powers all that much

And I tried unwieldy 4 on the weapon when it is in spinning death mode.
Yeah, which is part the reason why the blades are a welcome edition. I kind of like how they had made the prequel era into this golden age of knowledge. Ever since then the entire galaxy, Sidious and Vader excluded, have to all relearn how to fight and live by scratch. The fighting techniques would be laughable by sith/old Jedi standards, but these bloodhounds are neither of those things. I find it important to remember that distinction and for the new audience, it's a visual cue.
We do actually get to see how a pair of these Inquisitors shown in Rebels fare against a fully trained Jedi. It doesn't go well for them.
I must say, **** that turned out to be a fantastic show, i wasnt really all that happy about it when it was announced, but its fairly enjoyable
The first Inquistor we met was actually very good at his job and pretty skilled as well. More then enough to handle most partially trained padawans and untrained force users he would run into. Master Jedi usually were dealt with by Vader or Mercenaries who used cheats to win or you could just toss a small army of storm troopers at them until they died. Inquistors aren't meant to fight fully trained Jedi and win just hold them in place long enough to send in something from above to deal with it. Ezra is much stronger in the force then his master just in terms of talent and probably would become a master if he can survive long enough he isn't as strong as Luke or Anakin or even Rei probably on the same level as Kylo Ren aka Poseur Vader

True, if the first Inquisitor depicted on Rebels was competent, and had he not suffered from the raw arrogance that seems to plague 4 out of 5 "dark-siders" depicted in the fiction and games, then he would have been significantly more likely to capture Kaden and Ezra.
I think some folks missed something about that lightSaber the inquisitor was using it wasn't the normal length hilt on a double bladed weapon I think the inquistor's height and lanky hands made wielding it a lot easier. Second it is a very versatile weapon regardless of the wielder. A dual wielder is usually worse than a single blade user, the star wars canon does support that. So when you have multiple dual welders in a fight there is no clear advantage. I think it was more a case of sheer experience that won out in the fight above not the fact Ahsoka was a fully trained it was the fact that she had dueled the best there was and survived. The inquisition never did and basically only handled what Vader deemed not worth his time.
Edit: I was rewatching the series and I think thatthe I see a pattern. Though neither of the pair fight very long but I think the number indicates lightsaber style. The grand inquisitor recognized for 3 but he almost exclusively used for 2. Brother hardly ever ignites his second blade and always is aggressive ND a bit of a brute force kind of fighter indicating for 5. Seventh sister is the only one I can't say because for 7 doesn't really have an obvious style.
