Need help with 4 players deck :)

By telkryn, in Strategy and deck-building

Greetings everyone!

I've been playing Lotr LCG since it first came out with a friend as 2 players. We've had a lot of success and tons of fun.

I just recently formed a 4 players group and we tried building 4 decks but got obliterated against the first scenario of voice of isengard.

4 players seems a little rough for my deckbuilding skills... any good advice? I have every card available, but we only have a full playset of everything (so cant play 6 or 9x UC :P )

Is there general strategy for 4 players i should be aware of? What is working for you?

In the past, when playing 2 players, we've played deck with lot of emphasis on the heroes and few allies, should i be playing more allies as 4 players?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for my english, its not my first language ! :)

Greetings!

What was causing you to lose? Locations, enemies, treacheries...

Really is a mix of all that id say. We got overwhelmed (turn 1 starts with 4 enemies in staging + reveal 4 when questing), and we NEEDED the counterspell everytime we'd flip that treachery (draw 1 raise threat by a lot), was hard pulling enough willpower to quest while keeping enough defenders and attackers to clear the board... And locations started piling up, even with the help of asfaloth.

I dont know what we're doing wrong, if we just chose a bad scenario for 4 players, or if we're just bad :P

Having someone go Monospirit with Test of Will, Dwarven Tomb, Map of Earnil, and Eleanor can really help combat the treacheries. Or even Sprirt/Lore to get better card draw (not so good for this particular quest but good in general) and drop the Maps for Galadhrim Minstrels. Also throw in some Norther Trackers or Glorfindel/Asfaloth to combat location lock.

If you haven't had a problem with threat then definitely add in some doomed cards, it's crazy how good they are in 4 player.

Someone can go mono-leadership with Gondor allies, Faramir, and Sword that was Broken to really get some crazy willpower going.

The combat deck can be as good as you want it. There are some pretty crazy ones with Tactics Aragorn that rip enemies apart, and a Boromir deck can be just as strong but takes longer to set up. Having Ranged/Sentinel definitely helps a lot more in 4 players as well.

What card pool do you have access to? And are you trying to make 4 decks from the same card pool?

I'd suggest one player needs to be full tactics. Beregond and Legolas are my personal favorites to start with.

I agree with Seastan that someone should likely go pure (or heavy) spirit. Elenor and Eowyn are a great place to start. In a 4 player game you can get Eowyn up to 8 will power, which can be huge. I haven't used it in awhile, but threat management for the others through Song of Earendil has been very useful in the past.

Also, you could add group synergy by focusing on Elves using Celeborn, or Dwarves using Dain. Those heroes add benefits to all players allies/characters of those traits, so it can make a big difference.

I tend to spread out the resource generation effects if possible, so one person gets Steward of Gondor (attachment), another gets Horn of Gondor (attachment) and someone else gets Mablung (hero).
