Next small expansion idea

By Viperhook, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hey guys,

Playing Battlefront, I was thinking that Sullust could be a great theme for a small expansion. We could have volcanic tiles without a Mustafar expansion, and I feel like it is more thematic for the OT timeline. It could include,

4 Jet Pack Troopers (to navigate the terrain)

4 Bith Criminals (bith are found on Sullust according to star wars wiki)

2 heroes,

- a Sullustan Spec Ops or something

- a Mandalorian Explosive Expert

The wave could include those packs :

An ISB agent (like Kallus in rebels)

Wedge Antilles or Lando Calrissian (if no Bespin pack in the future)

4-Lom and Zuckuss 2 pack(like r2 and 3p0)

I'd like an expansion that dosen't fit right with the movies timeline. What do you think ?

I like the idea, but I think FFG will stick with movie expansions until they get through the core set and possibly new movies. I think it's easier to sell figures that people already have a familiarity with first.

While I doubt it will be the next, this is an expansion I would love to see. However, I would change a few of the characters. First off, the heroes: I would combine your two by having a Sullustan grenadier (I see Deathwatch as being Mercenary) and a dark jedi. A dark jedi would be a great way of adding another force user hero. I was thinking he would have 12 health 3 speed (like Anakin on Mustafar, nothing fazes him) and 5 endurance; His abilities would be Of Little Importance - all heroes are considered hostile figures (is on both healthy and wounded side) and Force Pull - 2 strain chose a hostile figure in range 4, place that figure in a space adjacent to you (only on healthy side). Another thing I would add to the game would be pits. They would be terrain with a yellow highlight. If a figure without mobile enters one of these spaces they must roll 1 blue die, if the result is less than 4, that figure is defeated, if that figure is a hero, ally, or villain they suffer 5 damage instead.

I think this is a great idea, and I even like the write up. As is. Well done, Viperhook.

Though I don't know what Wedge would offer on the ground. I never read any of the Star Wars novels.

I believe that FFG can sell those expansion packs that have little to do with the movies. No, I cannot use Twin Shadows as an example, that was the first expansion pack and we were hungry for it, plus Boba Fett, so sales of that were likely higher than subsequent expansions will be. Personally, it's a little irksome when companies are afraid to move off the "3 good planets" seen in the movies. Practically every game features Hoth as a battle setting because, yes, that scene is awesome in the true sense of the word (especially when seeing it for the first time), but it's Hoth EVERY TIME almost. By contrast, the characters spent far more time in Cloud City (which makes a far better IA setting btw), yet is comparatively absent in gaming licenses. I would actually like them to go even further and give me planets I've never seen before. Surely there are snow covered planets that aren't Hoth. Surely there are swamp covered planets that don't rhyme with Iagobah. Surely there are mountainous planets, acidic planets, planets of rolling algae. Glass planets? Or diamond? All iron? I would be up for purchasing these expansions.

Return to Hoth is going to be a testing ground for these... whether the wallets of the average casual gamer can handle more Core Sets.

I love the idea of adding more obscure planets, and lava would be awesome.

Some things to think of though. We already have some of those things already.

We have jump troopers and ISB agents already (through class and agenda cards).

What would be special about Bith criminals that would set them apart from the Rodians we already have? Could a simple resculp suffice?

What makes a Sullistan spec ops guy different from our Bothan spec ops guy and our new MonCalamari sniper?

What would a Mandalorian Explosives guy do differently than Fenn with blast on tap?

These are not intended to shoot down your good ideas! I just want you to flesh out your creativity.

The only issue for other planet types is that they will be limited to their box expansion and potentially their figure expansions for the box. This is simply FFG's method for having you be able to play any product you buy right out of the box provided that you have the Core Set. So we will be seeing alot of Forrest, Dessert, Imperial facility and Urban environments for the most part in this game.

As someone who has read a very large number of the Star Wars books, I really like the idea of them branching out into less known planets and species. Of course, as has been pointed out, less known can equal less $$$...I think a lot of the future will depend on what they end up doing with the new movies.

I played a lot of Star Wars Minis (before they died out), and it was really cool how many eras and neat monsters and characters they were able to include. It would make me very happy to see a similar diversity in this game.

Also, Wedge is a boss, on or off the ground. Rouge Squadron Rules.

Sidenote: The Bith Black Sun Vigo from Minis was one of the coolest figures ever, and thats immediately what I pictured when Viperhook mentioned Bith Criminals. Seeing some Black Sun units in this game would be really cool, and leaves a ton of room for new interesting Scum figures.

My guess is Bespin is coming next. Probably getting Lando and Lobot. Zuckuss and 4LOM. Possibly even a partially trained Luke w lightsaber.
