Cheap Rebel starter squad list?

By MarthWMaster, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've had a Core Set (Classic) for a while, but haven't bought any further into the game. Now that I'm thinking of getting into it more, what are some recommendations for a stable Rebel Alliance/Resistance squad that I could start off with, with the intent of gradually expanding from there? I'd like to keep initial costs low, but would prefer to buy full sets as opposed to singles, so that I have plenty of avenues for customization as time goes on. Also, I really like Luke; I mean, he's the main character after all. If there's a way to have him remain part of the build, that'd be awesome.

Thanks in advance!

E-Wing, Z95 Headhunter. That's the next two ships I got.

To field a 100 point squad you only need the Falcon. Very thematic with Luke and R2D2 flying next to Han and Chewbacca!

X-Wing: · Luke Skywalker (28)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

· R2-D2 (4)

Engine Upgrade (4)

YT-1300: · Han Solo (46)

Elusiveness (2)

Engine Upgrade (4)

· Chewbacca (4)

· Nien Nunb (1)

· Millennium Falcon (1)

Strongly agree with this. It's not a perfect build, but it's a very solid setup for learning with. Afterwards, you can focus on purchasing more Rebel ships slowly and upgrading your pool of options.

For example, an A-Wing will open up PtL, which will work great with Nien Nunb, then Rebel Aces maybe, which will enhance the A-Wing options for the A-Wing you purchased, and provide with you Jans and Kyle, who are great crew members for a Falcon using PtL, etc.

Falcon is a very solid first choice.

;)

Thanks guys. I've always liked the way this game plays and have wanted to start assembling my own fleet, but the more ships and upgrades that are added to the game, the more the potential catch-up cost intimidated me. Starting with the Falcon sounds very reasonable bank-wise, and I'm sure that once I have a squad I can legally play I'll be naturally drawn to pick up more material to fine-tune it into something that will suit my playstyle.

MAAAARTH!!!!!!!! It's so good to see back on the forums again. I remember back when we were all speculating like crazy before the game released!

I think for starting out small, I'll add my vote to the falcon.

I'm also not sure how you'll resist a T-70 X-wing. ;)

EDIT: Also, I know what you mean about playing catch-up. I left just before wave 3 and am still missing quite a few ships. But it's fun to just grow when you can.

I see what you did there. ;)

Righto. Just don't be afraid to take it nice and slow. If you participate in local events, sometimes you can make friends who won't mind letting you borrow the occasional ship or upgrade card to test out for a tournament.

I had some disposable income and went a bit overboard, spending upwards of $850 to buy a nice carrying case, a huge pile of sleeves, a few acrylic templates, one of every ship through wave 7 (including the rebel epic ships), etc., but now that I've caught up, it's a super cheap hobby. Waiting for new ships to come out, and only buying one of each, essentially makes it around $15 a month to keep totally updated.

Just go slow and pace yourself to what's appropriate for your budget. With just the Falcon, you'll have fun. With just a couple more Rebel boxes after that, you'll have a pile of potential lists that should keep you busy for awhile.

Fly casual.
