We need Emperor Palpatine

By gylvan2002, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Nothing to elaborate on. He is an OG gangster from the series of movie that FFG has the rights to. He is pretty much the best bad guy of all time. He needs to be in this game ASAP. That is all, thanks.

Part of the reason he's a good bad guy is that he doesn't go out and fight for no reason. This means there's no narrative reason to include him (and I feel like sticking to narrative is an important part of this game).

Nah, we need Lando.

Palpatine as a figure to use does not fit in this games style at all.

Nah, we need Lando.

Lando system?

Here's a narrative reason: he really hates those Sand People on the Tattooine skirmish map.

And Yoda. And they should both have double white defense.

Or how about having a mission where the Rebels know that he is going to this one planet under light guard so they must seize the chance to kill or capture him. It would work decently as a final mission for a campaign, though both the win and lose text would simply have him getting away.

Sorry, but I hope we never see the Emperor as a figure. It is already silly enough to see generals charging into battle (should be a lower rank).

Yes, Yoda and Lando as well!!!

Would you have Lando as Rebel or Mercenary?

Humm... Id say rebel. But I guess it would depend on if it were ESB Lando or ROTJ Lando.

Lando would easily be rebel. He was never on the Imperial's side and Mercenary does NOT mean neutral.

Lol, we could get a Yoda figure, but what kind of stats would you give a 900 year old senile Muppet?

Don't forget the part where he spent the last 20-something years wallowing in the guilt of his part in failing to stop the Sith from killing nearly all of his friends and charges and taking over the galaxy (I don't think he's actually senile, just a bit nuts).

Star Wars is all about sending their generals to lead the fight. General Solo, General Calrissian, General Skywalker, General Kenobi...

Notice how none of those are Imperial generals and one is even a jedi. Most of those people you listed as 'examples' are General only in title, not profession. Unless you mean to tell me that Skywalker and Lando went to military school off camera. Han used to be an imperial, but he was never a general in the Empire. Meanwhile, actual Generals like Dodonna, Reikan, Crix Madine did what an actual general would do... stay at HQ and order their forces from safety.

And don't cite General Veers. Commanding an AT-AT on Hoth is hardly equal to General Sorin getting deployed on foot in IA. Weiss in his AT-ST is a LITTLE believable.... but Sorin's situation is a complete joke and suicidal.

Do we really care all that much about flavor? You could 'ban' almost all of the skirmish missions on those grounds.

Things have to be thematic - sure. But for me, if it's the choice between getting to play with all the awesome characters that the SW universe can provide and comprehensive flavor wins, then I vote for more toys.

Considering they have an actual story (as weak as it is) in campaign mode, I hope you would care about flavor. It's already dumb enough that the Empire has Tusken Raiders (and soon) Wampas fighting for them. Tossing in the Emperor as a combat unit is just adding fuel to the fire.

Just ignore/block the grumpy trolls, its not even worth acknowledging them.

I want to see all the characters for this game. I imagine that they will do force awakened characters too.

Haha wow. Sorry I actually care about the integrity of Star Wars.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll see the Emperor playable some day. FFG doesn't seem to give a crap about the lore either.

I will have to figure out how to block hate trolls on this site i guess.

IG-88 was first wave and his name wasn't even said in the movies so i am confident that they will make their way to the Emperor. Perhaps more of the named imperial officers as well.

To be fair, there is real-world precedent. If you'll remember, the Empire is patterned off of the German army of WWII. It just so happens that there are a few examples of German Generals leading from the front, the most noteworthy being General Hermann Balck. He was a brilliant strategist, but more importantly, often lead from the front to ensure that he was able to quickly adapt to all situations. In three short weeks his lone panzer division virtually destroyed the entire Soviet Fifth Tank Army in Stalingrad. The odds he faced were scarcely short of incredible: the Soviets commanded a local superiority of 7:1 in tanks, 11:1 in infantry, and 20:1 in artillery. But Balck, leading from the front, reacting instantly to each enemy thrust, repeatedly parried, surprised, and wiped out superior Soviet detachments. Over the next few months his division would rack up an astonishing one thousand enemy tank kills. For this and other achievements Balck would be one of only twenty-seven officers in the entire war—Erwin Rommel was another—to receive the Knight’s Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds, the equivalent of an American receiving two, or even three, Medals of Honor.

Thats pretty interesting. Not sure if they have a character for him in Flames of War.

I care about Star Wars too. So much so that I actually want awesome characters like Emperor Palpatine, Obi-Wan, Yoda etc in the star wars games that I play.

Are you genuinely saying you DON'T want access to those characters?
