400 points and objectives

By Hastatior, in Star Wars: Armada

There has been a bunch of discussion on here of late regarding the MOV and other scoring perspectives and it got me to wondering...

The objective point assignment was likely designed with 300pt base games in mind, are they less balanced or proportionately less impactful on the game at 400 points?

For example, each "Contested outpost" token is worth 20 points, in a 300 point game that is 7% a token in a 400 point game it is a 5% a token impact. Might not seem like a big deal until its a 5 token to zero game (35% vs 25%) which makes the objective that much more valuable in a 300 point game, sometime enough to push a win/loss to a different bracket.

Should some objectives be retroactively rebalanced? Homebrewed? Is the proportional difference too small to worry about?

thoughts?

I would contest this point. That would be tantamount to operating under the assumption that FFG never originally intended for there to be large ships.

I feel everything was set for 400, and 180/300 was a compromise to not intimidate people out of the game immediately.

As for it... I feel the Objectives are still spot on - having played both Contested Outpost and Fire Lanes yesterday, they felt important, but not game breaking.

I could be wrong, but I believe that they have been balancing with the mindset that the game was going to be 400pts. But due to circumstances (delays) with wave 1 and 2, it took them longer to get the "full" game out.

I'll throw my hat in with Team 400pts - Intel Sweep's 75pt swing is TOO big for 300pts. Three tokens become ~1/4 of your fleet? It's a little more rational at 400pts.

Contested Outpost is one of the easiest to camp. Thus lower value.

Intel Sweep? That **** is ANNOYING even when its your OWN! objective. You telegraph your movement. You need to keep your objective ship alive, all the while avoiding dying to your opponent.

But for the reward its worth it. 75 points, nothing to sneeze at.

Most Wanted can now be 120 points, so some of the missions have been adjusted. With more ships and more squadrons, some of the missions have been adjusted as you can attack from the rear etc slightly more often. Opening Salvo could give 150+ points for just damaging the other fleet.

Many of the other missions are pushing for where the engagement takes place, minefields for instance will now push 400 or should that be 800 points of stuff into the same space as 600 was a few weeks ago. That would seem to create a more deadly fight wouldn't it?

I have played a total of two games with wave 2 at 400 points and felt that the missions remain very much relevant and gave an advantage to the player executing them.
