Fire When Ready: A new Star Wars Armada podcast

By Armada Jim, in Star Wars: Armada

The Corvette with Engine Techs get 2 yaw on their last click and then with ET another 2 yaw, thus ending a move with a 90 degree turn. 3-4 double bumps ends many a ship and shields just don't help.

You also have Ackbar and the CR90a, not too sure I heard that combo mentioned and add in a turbolaser reroute circuit and you have the death by 100 paper cuts fleet that just stays at long range and peppers your. Be funny once, redirecting and bracing 1-2 damage here and there.

Great job man, keep em coming!

Episode 3 is live now, and coming soon to an iTunes and Stitcher near you. It's a long one as I have a lot to say about the VSD, then I talk about the X-Wing squadron. All this plus Armada Advice from a certain Admiral, and maybe a little something about this movie that just came out, maybe you've heard of it...?

Yay! VSD love!

(Well, if calling something a "pig of a ship" is love. :P )

As others have noted, I like the shorter duration, and the "tip" voiceovers are always fun. Really enjoying them!

Please do get this on itunes.

I like IFF as I commute about 45 minutes each way.

I really enjoyed these, good voice and well scripted

I'm back from the holidays and ready to talk about Nebulon-Bs and TIE Bombers in Fire When Ready: Episode 4! Happy listening!

Please do get this on itunes.

The show is up on iTunes, so you can subscribe there. I was actually referring to the delay between posting an episode on my site and when it shows up on iTunes. :)

Glad you like the show!

This is a very well done podcast, with just the right length I think. Although I do listen to some of the other hours long podcasts it's nice to have shorter ones available too. Good work

Episode 5 is now up, get your MC80 and TIE Interceptor opinions here! Plus Ackbar's Advice, and maybe a little special something at the end as a tribute.

Oh god, the pun level is over 9000 ! AND I LIKE IT !

Great analytics on the different ships and builds. I like how you explore ships in details and upgrade slots card by card. Loving the AAAA and the end punchline, with the Star Wars references.

A simple comment though, and please don't take it the wrong way. What I really like about your analysis is that right off the bat you are looking at ships with the bigger picture of how they synergize with the fleet, and that is great because oh so often ships are discussed in a vacuum. Your example about Weight of Fire and the Gladiator, for example. In a few ships analysis (the Neb B Escort for instance), you suggest deployment strategies that aredefinitely good in a vacuum, but in a fleet wide scenario are likely to leave you vulnerable. Back to the Neb B Escort, you suggest to deploy it at speed 1-2 with the nose facing the enemy, while just after you say that the main goal is to use it to cover the fighters and the ships (very true) primarily. But deploying it face front means that you pin down the rest of the fleet in a front trajectory. I do agree that the flanks are weak, but outranging ships while still getiing the medium range on the side arc to cover the fighters is possible when you run in in a sideways fashion in a broadside list.

I love your comment about the Neb titles making the ship. It's an elegant answer of a more civllzed age to a problem I had about running multiple Nebulons :P

No offense taken at all, I welcome feedback!

Particularly in the case of the Nebulon, you're right that you could run it side-on, but I think that's both a more advanced move than my show aims for and doesn't play to the strengths of having the Neb in your fleet.

I'm not sure what you mean by "pin down the rest of the fleet in a front trajectory". Are you saying that other ships are now forced to go more head on to support the Nebulon?

Either way, once I'm done with the ships, I'm likely to talk more comprehensively about deployments and maneuvering, possibly in a video series.

Glad you're enjoying the show!

Hey, sorry again for the harsh vocabulary, I'm not a native english speaker and I was writing this post very late :P

What I mean (and I think you should touch upon this), is that the Neb Escort's greatest asset is that of actually an escort, capable of managing fighter cover and to help other ships defend against squadrons due to its 2 blue AA barrag attack. So, in that sense, I feel that it is better going in the same general direction as the fleet.

If you deploy it face forward on an intercept course with the enemy fleet (in order to protect her through only exposing the front arc which can really take a beating), and you go sideways with the fleet in general (CR90 flanking moves, AFMK2 and MC80 Broadside deployment), at some point the Neb will find itself out of range of the ships it's supposed to cover, and it will also mean flanking being easier. So, you'll want to have your ships stay close and probably not in their most optimal engagement area :) So yeah, it limits the sideways movement of the fleet if we are stuck into going forward. I lost a tournament by doing that on a AMK2, 2 Nebs list.

It also pins you down in Speed 1 forward deployment do maximize the front arc tank, so it limits the maneuvrability of the fleet in general.

But that's more me having a minor pet peeve, overall I agree with your analytics and like I said, I like the fact that you take the time to weigh each upgrade with how they synergize with the ship rather than pushing strong upgrades because they're strong ;)

Thumbs up in you do a video series on maneuvers ! Let me know if you need some help.

Just wanted to say, great work and I love the format. Thanks for your efforts!

Subscribed. I'll mainline it tomorrow at work.

Strong work, Armada Jim. I love the production values, I love the length, I love the presentation style, and of course I love Admiral Ackbar. (I love that my phone just auto suggested Ackbar as I was typing this).

Keep it up!!

Gonna give it a listen when I start painting.

Episode 6 is in the bag, and my voice is still a little bit hoarse, but I'm bringing you Gladiators, Y-Wings, thoughts on upcoming Store Championships, and the usual Advice. Enjoy!

Great podcast Jim! I caught up on some of the episodes and the content is great. You clearly both know the game and how to present. Episodes are also a nice length, avoiding endless talk. Would recommend you try get some guests on the show for variety, perhaps if you play a game with someone you talk talk about your respective sides afterwards.

Listened to E1. Very positive overall. Not too long, many good basic (this is E1 after all) observations.

Episode 6 is in the bag, and my voice is still a little bit hoarse, but I'm bringing you Gladiators, Y-Wings, thoughts on upcoming Store Championships, and the usual Advice. Enjoy!

Solid analysis on the Y-Wing my friend, especially regarding Dutch and them needing escorts in the form of X-Wings to both compensate their weaknesses and allow them to actually deliver their payload ;)

Fire When Ready is back, and Episode 7 is all about ISDs and A-Wings. I hope my absence has made your hearts grow fonder!

Thanks Jim, just downloaded. Look forward to listening on the way in to work!

Episode 8 is up, all about how to Assault your Frigate and Advanced your TIEs.

Upside: two episodes in two weeks!

Downside: now going to a bi-weekly schedule, so the next show will be in a fortnight.

I had no idea the Assault Frigate was manufactured by Mitsubishi! Sorry, a lame joke based on your pronunciation of "Gallant." Joking and mild ribbing aside, I really enjoy your show. The short format is really great, and it lends it self well to repeat plays. I could never imagine listening to an older podcast again in most normal situations, but yours makes it really easy to brush up and mull over upgrades relevant to the ship. Thanks for your hard work.

Episode 9, all about Raiders and B-Wings, went live last night!
