Homemade dial?

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing

So FFG rocks and sent me a free squint to replace a broken one, but now I have two perfectly good ships and only one dial! Thankfully I'm resourceful and made a card! Sorry, no pics, but it's really just a hand drawn version of the Interceptor reference card in a heavy card sleeve, so there is no point. I use a dry erase marker to mark my move and lay the card face down on the table. Seems to work, but does anyone have any more elegant solutions?

You can probably find a single on Ebay from an independent seller.

Make a cardboard copy pf the part of the dial with the arrows and use the "loop" in a paperclip to show which manouver you've choosen. Its not elegant, but should work.

EDIT: Later in the thread I apologize to the OP for the accusatory tone of this post. For the honor of all who previously liked this post, and to keep the continuity and context of the thread, I am leaving the original post.

ORIGINAL POST:

So you had a broken one, got FFG to send you a replacement ship, and then fixed your broken one to make it "perfectly good," and now you want a dial to fly two ships for the price of one? Am I missing something, or does this sound kinda shady? If it's "perfectly good," why did you need a replacement?

At this point why not just ask FFG for a new dial, too?

I mean, I wouldn't, but that's me...

I would love to respond to these two statements in a tactful and calm manner. Somehow though, and I don't think this is very rare, I just don't feel very magnanimous after having been called a cheat and liar. I would expect an apology but I think that would be as forthcoming as your comments would be in real life, which is zilch.

Maybe that's a thing to think about too, would you be so accusatory in a real life situation? Food for thought.

EDIT: I take it back. I WAS rather accusatory in my first post. There was no need for that. I could have literally said, "This is how I see the situation: _____. It looks bad to me. Did I misunderstand something?"

I didn't say that, and here's why. FFG has an AMAZING customer service record. They say that they only relace missing or broken parts from newly opened products, but there have been many people who lost a piece and got it replaced. The thought of someone taking advantage of that was appalling to me because I thought it could lead to FFG's needing to cut back on their customer service.

I see your point of view. As a customer, you deserve a new, unbroken model. Then, if you have the pieces lying around, it makes sense you would glue them together. But coming to the forums and asking how to make a dial so you can fly this ship without needing to buy a new one (thus saving $15 from FFG's charity) seemed to cross a line to me. Maybe it happens all the time, maybe not. But it just seems wrong to openly discuss that sort of thing on FFG's own website.

Actually, you know what? I'm having a bad day, so screw it. I'm a bastard and I want to run FFG into the ground by buying only the defective ships and then forcing them to replace them. Bad Santa. Parade. Rain. Ball. Home. You Guys. Screwed.

I feel better now...

Especially about the part where a perfectly good ship warranted replacement.

The part where it broke in my hand? Uh duh!

This is going to get good before it gets better.

That's a ridiculously optimistic view. You should get your head checked. Optimism is disgusting when you're wallowing in pessimism.

You broke it in your hand? So it wasn't defective. And wasn't broken beyond use since you fixed it to the point of perfectly goodness.

You must see how it's appearing to be blatent abuse of their generous customer service, thus far.

So FFG rocks and sent me a free squint to replace a broken one, but now I have two perfectly good ships and only one dial!

So the broken ship magically became perfectly good again?

There are plenty third party dials you can buy

Define broken.

Now define so broken it requires a replacement.

Now define so broken it requires a replacement but yet was able to be easily repaired.

Next time make sure to claim both the ship and the dial as busted.

While you're at it, you can file a claim that your Raider spontaneously combusted while trying to summon force lightning on people that called you out on your con. Make sure to point out four ATCs which had been stored nearby had been caught in the conflagration, and that collateral damage included a scum box including a btl y wing and a starviper with two sets of autothrusters.

Here's to the FFG customer service, maintaining a positive image and service record despite having to deal with people like you on a daily basis.

There's a TIE advanced expansion at my local B&N and the ship is broken, you can see he wing is off completely and it's laying in its bubble like a pitiful thing. No one has bought it in months and months. So if I buy it...do I get popcorn?

why doesn't the shop return it

I'd try to take it off their hands at 50%. Plus, it's so fitting for Vader to get broken and put together again.

I don't thing FFG really cares what happens to a broken model after they sent a replacement. And they are probably well aware of the business risk they are taking with their customer service policy. So there's really no reason for any outrage.

I'd buy a separate dial, photocopy a new one (maybe put it into the upgrade kit) or use a proxy. For tournaments, borrow a dial perhaps?

Dunno. I doubt anyone at the store would have noticed unless they sift thru the SWXM stuff regularly. I would bring it to someone's attention but I don't own a raider....

I am not to sure B&N employees give a rat@$$ about broken products. There was a broken Intercept with the panel behind the ship at my local store I took it to the counter handed it to the the clerk point out the problem was thanked the ship was tagged and put in a bin behind the counter. Next time iwent in the same interceptor was back on the shelf. /shrug
