Several noobie questions

By Ccwebb, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ok, just expanded my ships last night to include Slave 1, Tie Intercepter and Devastator.

1) Slave 1 is really AS maneuverable as an X-wing (t-65)?!?

2) Why is Boba Fet an Imperial and not Scum/bounty hunter?

3) Soontir Fel with Push the Limit and Night Beast-- they both get 2 tokens every round?!? (As long as both are doing green maneuvers and Fel does boost and evade)

1) Not sure this is a rules question but yes

2) He has a Scum version as well in Most Wanted box. When the Firespray came out in Wave two there was no Scum faction.

3) Yes

2) At the time the Slave 1 expansion was in development there wasn't a Scum faction. The good news is, when you eventually buy Most Wanted, you'll get a new set of Scum pilots for the Firespray, including Scum versions of Boba and Kath.

3) It's worse than that, actually. Since Baron Fel's ability says assign him a focus token rather than take a free focus action, he can take a Focus, Push to Evade, and get another Focus token from the PtL stress, for a total of two eyeballs, one zig, and one stress. This doesn't work with Night Beats (oontz oontz oontz) because his ability lets him take a free Focus action, and you can't take the same action twice in a round.

Did you mean Decimator?

The difference between a Firespray and an X-Wing's maneuverability is that A: the Firespray has an extra Koiogran option, and B: the Firespray has a large base.

That large base is surprisingly impactful, here. Note that all of these statements are true, even though the large-based Firespray is using the exact same templates.

  • When a Firespray performs a 1 forward, it is carried twice the distance of an X-Wing's 1 forward.
  • When a Firespray performs a 2 turn, it goes a distance of appx a 3 turn for a small-base.
  • When a Firespray performs a Boost maneuver from the Engine Upgrades ...upgrade, it goes a further distance.
  • When a Firespray performs a Barrel Roll from the Expert Handling upgrade, you use the 1 maneuver template turned 90* from the normal, rolling through the long-side instead of the short-side, as otherwise you'd get substantially more use out of the action.
  • The Firespray has a much larger base, meaning that it is far more likely to be blocked or land on an asteroid.

Moreover, the large-base means that the Firespray's firing arcs are wider (Due to having a firing aperture that's 2x larger), but it is also more easily targeted (due to covering 4x more of the table's area than the small base).

A common tactic when fighting against large ships? Large asteroids, and use the opening moves of the game to force the fight to be near a relatively dense asteroid cluster. Smaller ships can dart through the gaps, but the big ship will require substantially better piloting to do the same.

Did you mean Decimator?

...Almost certainly not.

The dial seems to fall in line with the more agile imperial to rebel shipsn while rebels get more shields and access to regen. The thing that drives me nuts is the decimator has the same dial as the firespray minus the k-turns AND 2 more green maneuvers. That is just crazy.

Did you mean Decimator?

...Almost certainly not.

Then I totally missed the Star Detroyers release in x-wing.

Did you mean Decimator?

...Almost certainly not.

When OP says Devastator pretty sure he means Decimator and not Vaders flagship Star Destroyer before the Executor.

Absolutely... As I said in my other post, that's what I get with spell check and grammar from posting with my phone. Sorry.

I did mean the The VT-49 Decimator

So the similar tactic vs. Tie Swarm?

(Sorry I posted a non-rules question in this area.)

A TIE Swarm usually plays like a Huge ship, kinda like how a school of fish is bigger than a shark.

Truly excellent Swarmists will learn how to abandon and reconfigure their formations to suit the board-state... but that's top-tier stuff.

A single TIE Fighter is nimble. A swarm tends not to be. Well spotted :)

So can Boba Fett be used with the Imperial squad OR Scum squad, if the appropriate card/base is used?

The imperial boba fett card can be used in (and only in) imperial squads and can use imperial only upgrades.

The scum boba fett card can be used in scum squads...

There are two pilots for the Firespray named Boba Fett (Canonically and irrelevantly the same person).

One is available for the Empire, and the other is available for Scum.

The Most Wanted set comes with a lot of extra pilot cards and ship dials.

It includes 3 plastic ships, but has a total of 6 maneuver dials in the box.

http://xwing-miniatures.wikia.com/wiki/Most_Wanted_Expansion_Pack

It comes with a Y-Wing and two Z-95s painted in scum colors, with pilot cards and dials for them, it also includes an extra scum Y-wing Dial that you can use with a Rebel Y-wing.

It includes a bunch of new upgrades including Salvaged Astromechs which are the Scum-only Astromechs that the Scum Y-wings can equip.

It includes cards and dials for the Firespray-31 and the HWK-290.

Basically if you have the Imperial Slave-1 expansion and the Rebel HWK-290 expansion and at least 1 Y-wing, when you buy Most Wanted you suddenly have 6 different ships you can use in the faction.

On a related note, the Houndstooth Expansion includes an extra Scum Z-95 dial. So if you had bought a Rebel Z-95 for Wingman and Munitions Failsafe, it won't go to waste.

People bought up the Most Wanted sets and are reselling it for a hundred bucks, don't give anything to scalpers, FFG has more coming in.

Cool! Thank you.
