Thruster Fissure during Collisions, does it trigger?

By thecactusman17, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Thruster Fissure causes you to take a damage if you change your speed by one or more. Overlapping a ship causes you to temporarily reduce your speed to avoid overlapping. Does overlapping a ship trigger Thruster Fissure? What about Phylon Q7 Tractor Beams?

Please add this to a future FAQ.

I would say no. You are not changing your speed just reducing it for the moment. To me changing speed involves the dial being moved to another number until a command changes it.

Indeed. You are not Reducing Your Speed , you are Performing a slower speed maneouver .

Your Speed is Not Changed, which is what the Trigger for the Critical is.

Gimmie Time, I'm already quote arguing in another thread, and I'm tired from actually being allowed to Game all day across town :D

I envy you. I have worked 25.5 hours in the last 40 hours. . . so tired. . .

The Actual Wording is a little ambiguous, as I go back to actually read both the Rules and the Card.

From the RRG:

If a ship executes a maneuver and its final position would overlap another ship, it cannot finish its maneuver normally. Instead, temporarily reduce its speed by one (without changing the speed dial)

Its the temporarily that shines there. And although I can't find the Email Reply, I know there WAS One.

However, with Phylon Q7 Tractor beams, that DOES force you to change your speed. However, there is one aspect that I will add here.

The Critical Cards says when you change your Speed. Phylon Q7s have the Enemy Change your Speed if you don't spend the token...

FAQ it.

This is the first gaming I've had since Sullust, and technically, my first Day off in over 6 weeks. :D

And here I thought I was making money for Christmas.

So here's my devils advocate argument:

The word "you"? Per previous rulings it means your ship. Not the player. So reducing the ship's speed, even temporarily, would potentially affect the card. Further, there is no qualifier for voluntary or involuntary changes.

Thankfully, in my game tonight, the collision dropped me to one hull point on my second to last ship so it was easy for the sake of time to say "well, I guess it blows up" (even though my opponent disagreed).

A FAQ would clear this up tremendously.

This is important because you can take the damage on any hull zone of your choice.

Actualy the wording on Q7 is:

"... That ship must spend a [navigation] token or reduce its speed by 1 ..."

"That ship" referes to the targeted ship, so it is not the ship with the tractor beam that reduces the target ships speed, it is the targeted ship that is reducing it.

So tractorbeaming a ship with Thruster Fissure should cause it so suffer the effecs of Thruster Fissure.

Temporary reductions in speed to resolve overlaps never result in a change in speed and thus would not interact with the damage card in question.

However, with Phylon Q7 Tractor beams, that DOES force you to change your speed. However, there is one aspect that I will add here.

Which is what I agree with. But to avoid being chewed out by dissenting abusive opinions in PMs, I take a more moderate ground when there is question these days... :)

Wait. . . People chew you out in PM's? I just get chewed out on the forums. . . They really like you more

Yes, regrettably. I got quite a few abusive messages from fairly new accounts. They were subsequently reported and I've heard little since... But still. It took the edge off my enjoyment.

Oh well back to the topic!

I get the same decrease of enjoyment when people like ScottieATF and DerErlkoenig pummel me in public.

Oh well back to the topic!

This your first time on the internet Lyraeus? lol

But on topic:

Overlap and Thruster Fissure - no, you would not suffer any damage, as you are not changing your speed. Overlap is a temporary reduction in speed, but your speed dial does not change. If you were at speed 2, you overlap another ship, even if you do not end up moving, your speed is still set at 2 (it does not change).

Tractor Beams and Thruster Fissure - this one is a little more tricky. Personally, I believe that you would suffer damage from this as tractor beams causes you to change your speed, and when you change your speed, thruster fissure activates. But if you would have a nav token to spend, you wouldnt change speed, therefor thruster fissure would not activate.

edit: put overload fissure instead of thruster fissure....not sure where I got overload fissure from...

Trudging through pages of ill-conceived rule arguments to have a person accept nothing less then FFGS word on that matter (which always seems to fall opposite of that players argument) also diminishes my enjoyment from debating/answering rules questions on these forums.

Yikes that 's terrible, we are all passionate about the same game, we don't all have to agree all the time but it is always worth remembering that the other guy is just as passionate and also wants to see the game he loves grow and prosper.

Let's pretend that you are always congenial, and a perfect gentlemen. That'll help your self-victimization be very pitiable.
