Encumbrance on Grenade Launcher Grenades

By TheBoulder, in Game Masters

Hey peeps, one of my players desperately wants to use a grenade launcher (not really sure why, but people want what they want ;) ).

But he's worried about encumbrance values. It says in dangerous covenants that they are smaller. But gives no guidance on an actual encumbrance value.

How would you or have you handled this?

Maybe 3 for six pack case.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, 2 for 1 encumbrance. Thanks for the response. :)

It normally is a bit more on the GM's judgment and how the player stores them.

The reason I was thinking 2:1 is that a real life grenade launcher grenade is 1/2 lb and 4 inches long. This seems comparable to a throwing grenade but in the book it says they are a bit smaller, so 2:1 seems fair.

I think you’d also be justified as treating them identically to standard hand-thrown grenades for all purposes, except for the ability to launch them out of the weapon.

I believe you have some flexibility here, so however you want to run them in your game should work fine. But this is something where I’d talk to the player and see if they agree that what you propose is reasonable.

What do you mean by treating them identically? As in, they can be thrown? The rules specifically disallow this, so they are quite limited. That's why I think they should have some break on encumbrance.

I'd agree normally that I would discuss it with the player... but the player wants a six pack to be 1 enc. So essentially I have to make a ruling.

By treating them identically, I mean Encumbrance, price per unit, and all other aspects — except for how they are deployed.

Grenades for a grenade launcher cannot be hand-thrown, and hand-thrown grenades cannot be deployed out of a grenade launcher.

Yeah, a six-pack wouldn’t be just one point of Encumbrance. That’s silly.

Even if they were the size of Dutch V-40 hand grenades, a six-pack of golfballs would be more than just one point of Encumbrance.

Ah I see, yes, I figured you meant that, just wanted to make sure.
