Dual Vipers + Kihraxz

By Epixca, in X-Wing Squad Lists

No one? Wow.

I don't have two StarVipers, so I haven't thought much about this list. Here's a first-attempt.

Guri [Predator, Autothrusters] (35)

Prince Xizor [Veteran Instincts, Virago, Autothrusters, Advanced Sensors, Glitterstim] (40)

Black Sun Ace [Crack Shot] (24)

Xizor is your closer. He has Veteran Instincts to put him at PS 9 so that he cares more about arc-dodging and less about his ability. Advanced Sensors allows you to Barrel Roll or Boost before you execute your maneuver, making him even more unpredictable.

The Black Sun Ace wants to keep up with Xizor as much as possible, in case he does need to take a hit for the Prince.

Guri is just going to zoom into range 1 as fast as possible and harrass things. Okay, maybe not as fast as possible. With Autothrusters, she'll want to be at range 3 for the first round of combat, just like Xizor, then she can move in to get her focus token. With Predator rerolls and her focus for being in range 1 of an enemy, she'll have quite the damage output and will be a prime target for your opponent. Let the other two fall on the enemy while Guri distracts them.

Save Xizor's Glitterstim for that inevitable turn where he gets caught in arc without a friendly at range-1. Obviously, you can't measure range 1 before using Glitterstim, so just keep an eye on those distances and get a feel for where range-1 is.

Quick two cents here on asking for advice: minimize the use of naked links. If you want to link additional info into the post that's good, but make the basic info into text that says what it is. This way people can glance at it without clicking through a bunch of links :)

For example, you have available to you:

Core Set

E-wing

YT-2400

Imperial Aces

TIE Defender

Slave I

2x Starviper

Kihraxz

2x IG-2000

Alright, with that out of the way back on topic...

Your "requirements" are quite vexing, headhunters are the breadcrumb filler for almost any Scum list. (I totally understand not having them though, I've been waiting a while for my Most Wanted Pack to get my scum off the ground) as far as dual vipers go I am inclined to recommend them in the form of low-PS blockers, like a tougher, harder-hitting A-wing. To that extent I like the Aggressor or Firespray(I know you need Most Wanted for that) better to fill out such a big chunk of points:

- Black Sun Enforcers w/

Autothrusters

(27pts each x2)

- IG-88c w/

Veteran Instincts

Advanced Sensors

Glitterstim

Autothrusters

(44pts)

Comes out to 98 points to help the initiative bid. Just for kicks though, here's Xisor, Guri, Talonbane for ya:

- Prince Xisor w/

Veteran Instincts

Autothrusters

(34pts)

- Guri w/

Virago

Advanced Sensors

Feedback Array

(35pts)

- Talonbane Cobra (28pts)

Totals 98 points, again good for the initiative bid, but also leaves room for a wide variety of upgrades for Talon. I almost put in Lightning Reflexes because it allows you to flip all over even with stress so your opponent is easily caught off guard. Alos consider Crackshot, Lone Wolf, or Glitterstim. The Idea here is that with Advanced Sensors Guri is free to bump and/or block with abandon and with Feedback equipped, she doesn't even need arc! She will die quickly under those conditions though so take advantage of your opponent's lost actions and use your PS9 aces to tear into the furball. Also during the furball part Guri can take hits for Xisor.

I do like Budgernaught's idea too, the Kihraxz is a decent escort for Xisor thanks to the similarity of the dials as long as you don't need to K-turn/S-loop. I'd switch crackshot to bodyguard in that strategy though which makes the Black Sun into the first target since he'll be tokenless and making Xisor harder to hit.

End of the day though; I'll tell you somehting you've apparently already heard - Xisor wants cheap cannon fodder to take hits for him. Putting him with aces that have abilities you want to use just turns him into a PS7 (or with VI, a PS9) generic because I wouldn't want to pass hits to something with a decent standalone pilot ability like Talonbane.

I have been messing around with this build. Tell me what you think. I really like your ideas, can't wait to test them!

-Xizor

Virago

Predator

AT

Inertial Dampners

Advanced Sensors

-Guri

Predator

AT

-Cartel Marauder

Glitterstim

That's a good one too. I like Predator on those StarVipers.

Anything that would make it better, with the cards I have?

You're not going to find any super-synergy with these craft, unlike some other ships out there, so I don't think there is necessarily anything "better" than what's been put forward in this thread. At this point, it's less about the list and more about "turn 0" and how you fly it.

Are you familiar with "turn 0?" If not, you should look it up. It basically has to do with how you want to set up asteroids and where you want your fighters placed at the beginning of the match. Also, since you see your opponent's ships before placing anything, you need to be able to devise a plan against certain list archetypes. There's some really interesting stuff there and I think you're at the point with these lists where you need to start thinking about that and then get out there and play the lists!

Can I tell you what I do like about that last list? I like having Predator on both of your StarVipers. It means Xizor can focus on using Advanced Sensors with his action for his positioning, rather than needing to modify for offense. Guri can also worry about positioning with Barrel Rolls and Boosts because not only does she get Predator for more offensive consistency, but if she's at range-1 of an enemy she gets a focus token to augment her offense further or save it for defense.

Looking at your list, I think it will do best against lists with many generic pilots. I'm not sure how well it will do against aces like Poe Dameron or Soontir Fel. Turrets could be problematic, but at least you have Autothrusters to mitigate damage from those.

Let us know how it works out.

What about playing against Super-Dash?

What about playing against Super-Dash?

You will use Boost a lot to get into range-1 to avoid the HLC. That means Predator is good so you can still modify offense. If you know you're facing Super Dash and you want to counter-build, I would drop Predator on Guri and give her VI. Then I wouldn't replace the 2 points you lost because you can use that for an initiative bid. If you win the initiative bid, give initiative to your opponent. Now Dash has to move first, so he can't react to where you are since Guri and Xizor will both be Pilot Skill 7 and move after Dash does. This will let you get into his arc with good predicting and post-maneuver positioning (boost/barrel roll). Since you're going for range-1 anyway, Guri should get her focus token so she can still modify attacks with her free focus token even if she boosts or barrel rolls.

What if Dash has Mangler?

What if Dash has Mangler?

Hmmm. Good question.

"Lock the door." "And hope they don't have blasters."

I think you still want to get into range 1. At least you'll get +1 to your attack dice to bring you up to 4, but he'll still be rolling 3. And you also have the agility advantage there with 3 agility vs. Dash's 2. Also, if you are careful to stay out of his arc, you should be getting Autothrusters to trigger, turning 1 blank into an evade.

You still need to give him initiative so that you can reposition after movement. Otherwise he will just dance out of reach.

I really think you've got this one! Go take 'em down! :)
