PS bid shifts downwards (disturbance in the PS force)?

as a dedicated Bossk player I can say to hell with competitive if it's FUN!

Totally agree! Bossk is great. Mangler, Calculation, Outlaw Tech, K4 Security Droid, 45 Points. Boom!

Well, our community still uses the old pre-faq wording of Daredevil (without bitching about order and not getting stressed for red maneuver)

So it's

Bossk+Mangler+K4+Tactician+Outlaw tech+Engine upgrade.

I haven't found any one thing unbeatable atm.

I win games with PWT. I win games with boosting barrel rolling gits. I lose games with them.

I win games with generics against those archetypes too.

OH ****, PAUL HEAVER IS HERE?

or maybe just another forum warrior?

That was sarcasm.

The guy said he never saw anyone who couldn't beat.

I do know PHeaver is sometimes seen around (but not as much as local forum warrior caste)

Barrel rolling boosting Trunk of Doom?

Sounds good.

Still hoping FFG will remember the real size of that thing and give us "Small huge Ship" a-la YV-666 Heavy Freighter

with something akin to

4 attack, range 1-4

16 hull

6 shields

0 evades

REAL 3-decked monster with ton of crew, single team, 1 turret and 1 hardpoint

Can't store any energy, has to locate it to upgrades directly

And a real Z-95 that can fit inside at the cost of 2 crew slots.

The truth still stands that 'hard matchup != unbeatable', though. After the Phantom nerf there is no more matchup that is flatout unwinnable (even then there wasn't, but we were pretty close) as long as you build reasonable squads. X-Wings has changed a lot and I would argue for the better. Good squadbuilding is rewarded now instead of just being "Oh why don't you just spam the most efficient generic instead?". Sure that leads to more "netdecking", since a lot of people don't have a talent for listbuilding or just don't have fun doing it, but that is still better than the affore mentioned situation where squads per default are all the same. Yes, the time where you can just throw together whatever and have a relatively even matchup is gone. I would argue that isn't a bad thing. You now have to have a plan for any dominant archetype in your area, be it aces, brobots, fat turrets, TLT spam, TIE swarms or anything that develops localy.

Want to run a TIE swarm, but you are scared of being dodged all day? Why not try something entierly new, like this: http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Galactic%20Empire&d=v3!s!10::-1:-1:;10::-1:-1:;10::-1:-1:;18:-1:-1:-1:;49:126,-1,-1,-1,138:-1:-1:;49:126,-1,-1,-1,138:-1:-1:

Took me a minute to think up and might definitly have a place in certain metas.

Reading comprehension for the win Warpman? I guess your still feeling upset that I called you out the other day? A shame as I generally find you talk sense in your posts. Even in that thread I had no issue with what you were trying to say.

I absolutely am a forum warrior. You know like 99% of us on here. Like you probably are. I play competitive locally but haven't been able to attend a regionals or higher. I win much more than I lose friendly and store champ level but never have I claimed to be a master of the game. I am happy to say I'm good at the game but I don't even claim to be the best in my little corner of the world let alone bringing the likes of Paul into it.

To clarify my post for you, I said "any one thing". As in lists. I think my post pretty clearly made no mention of people, neither was there any express statement saying I'm an expert at the game.

I've been beaten by plenty of people with a number of archetypes being flown by myself and them. I've also beaten any of those archetypes. They aren't auto win for me or my opponent? Nor do I always fly net lists. I enjoy list building too much to always fly the same stuff.

I also stated that I don't think complaining about the archetypes reflects the skill of the complainer. I don't know Paragoomba for example and he could table me with ease even if I was flying a boostwing list for all I know. I disagree with his opinion entirely but I don't think it makes him or anyone that agrees with him a less skilful player.

Clear enough for you?

Oh and that isn't sarcasm if you wondered.

Back to the original topic: personally, I have been sitting very comfortably at PS6 and I don't mind when I see VI on my opponent (because it means that in this case, he wasted points).

Whether an enemy is PS 1 or PS 11, they all fly in a straight line after being hit by an ion cannon ;)

I think Ion in particular and control builds in general are going to be the way to go moving forward. A while back on...well, one of the podcasts about X-Wing, someone insightful mentioned how every wave control builds start really showing up in the competitive metagame after things have been digested for a while and control always does well. Not autowin, but it generally has a good footing against all comers.

I think Ion especially is going to be super efficient moving forwards, both turrets and cannons, maybe even the bombs too depending on who can take them when. This is going to push PS back down to the PS2 generics, and then slightly up again as they get countered a bit (inb4 flying ps4 before it was cool). Ion pushed through with a Crackshot or something, followed up or complimented by some stress from R3-A2 or a Tactician, and you have a very nervous opponent.

I don't think ion will ever be a huge component in the meta. When you go control typically you don't want to limit your damage to one per shot. There are successful control builds that do this, but they're more rare. Like triple ion turret PS 2 HWK, bandit squadron, and stresshog, but that's really the only one I can think of besides for my own Roark swarm tactics two PS 12 ion turret anti-phantom list.

What you want is a control build that sacrifices nothing to gain that control. Like Aaron Bonar's triple K-Wing TLT Tactician build, or Panic Attack. Or just throwing the stress hog into any rebel build. Something that's not built out of rice paper and that can deal with aces while also not autolosing to a conventional list like BBBB(Z) or AC Tempests or whatever.

I'm no Champion Sh/t Hot Pilot but I've found the games that I've enjoyed the most, and had the most success in, have been when I've had one PS8+ and as many PS3-4s as I can fit.

Mainly that's been Imperials, I seem hopeless with Rebels, but I see no reason why it shouldn't be true across the board. So if the game is moving toward more, lower PS ships I'm good with that. :)

So I didn't play this Sunday, I asked my girlfriend if she wanted to play X-Wing at the FLGS and she said, "If you want to". I then suggested cuddling instead and she said that that is more appealing to her.

Cuddling is OP.

Even a preschooler smearing ice scream on his face could cuddle.

Only if you have the Girlfriend upgrade.

I hear that one is more expensive than the Raider and its TIE Advanced fix!

Yup.

They also come with further upgrades that are faced down randomly. Each round roll a red die, if it comes up with a crit you have to flip a further upgrade and pay the associated cost.

The Mother-In-Law Crit...

The Engagement Ring Crit...

OMG Wedding Planning Crit...

Just keep your pilot skill low and fly casual... this too shall pass...

What you don't want to do is aggravate the Aces in this list... they hold a vengeance streak...

I respectfully disagree. Ion is something that's almost always a turn-to-turn choice; whatever has Ion stapled to it has an alternative form of attack. HWKs and Y-Wings generally rely on their turret as their only source of damage, which is where the TLT resonated so forcefully, but ICT on the Ghost or K-Wings, or Ion Cannons on B-Wings and Scyks, isn't your only form of damage available.

My main thrust here is that your Ion gear has a job to do, but after you've established control of your enemy's position you can chose to apply conventional pressure with the advantage of both position and damage. Even 2ATK ships like the Scyk can press an advantage like that.

The main argument against control is Large Primary Weapon Turrets since they have much less care about their manoeuvres turn-to-turn. It's important then to bring something the PWT doesn't want to see, like a pair of TLTs or something in more of a Swarm (is Swarm back in this season? I never could keep up with fashion).

Sorry for running a bit long there but I don't think straight damage output is quite as necessary anymore. We have more consistent or versatile options over just quantity of attack dice now, and I think that's going to make for a lot of interesting matchups moving forward. PS is going to be a big part of that.

I'm pretty sure the hidden upgrade only shows up after the red die stops showing paint.

I agree with that. I've found Ion is usually pretty effective as long as you back in up with other options. It's one of your weapons, not the only one. I like Ion Turret BTL-A4 Y-Wings with Ion Torpedoes & Unhinged Astromech. Lots of options & surprising amounts of damage.
