Triple TIE/x1

By Kalandros, in X-Wing Squad Lists

[40] PS9 - Darth Vader - EU, Predator, ATC/x1, Prockets

[34] PS6 - Zertik Strom - EU, Predator, ATC/x1

[26] PS3 - "Jedi" Colzet - FCS/x1, Prockets

No initiative bid sadly, because I just don't want to cut anything out.

Zertik has EU for positioning his "No range 1 bonus" bubble better

Vader has EU because Vader

Colzet is a Jedi because he won me a game against Poe, flipping the one damage card that turned out to be Direct Hit (other card already face up) - destroying him and winning the final round of a tournament's top table, otherwise I had lost by 1 pt (38 pts for Colzet + Academy vs Poe at 39 pts) - on the last round of the game (time was called).

Opinions?

Both EU and Predator are expensive as hell but I feel I should leave them there~ Still a bit doubtful about Zertik, should I PtL instead of Predator?

Strom doesn't do anything special for ATC; will be really clunky with it both offensively and defensively

AC + Juke is far more efficient

I'll explore Juke when its available (playing in a tournament tomorrow, gotta have the cards!)

In a three-ship list, you need every ship dealing solid damage or else you can run into the problem of not being able to kill enough quickly in a timed game. So I would say keep ATC on strom---ATC is really good on any advanced, in my experience. If your PS is lower, yes you cannot grab the target lock right away against higher PS, but you will be able to grab it next turn, so can still work out alright.

Vader with proton rockets is solid. Gives you potential for 5 damage (not 6 as you have in your original post), which is still one more than what you can get from ATC at R1. However, maximizing damage usually requires spending the TL, so its best to fire it when you are quite certain it will be a kill shot.

Proton Rockets on Colzet is not a good idea, however. His pilot skill is too low to be able to use it effectively against anything except for very stiff ships and stuff with lower pilot skill (at 3, that leaves only 1 or 2 PS ships...). I would suggest replacing it with ion pulse missile for better control against large ships, or alternatively, go for an initiative bid so Vader has the edge on other PS 9 aces.

Yep you're right on all counts, I hadn't read ATC properly for the added Crit being Primary weapon only~ too bad! :P

Colzet indeed only got to fire his procket once in the 4 games I played with this list

Definitely need to play more patiently because the green dice are insanely fickle, as usual.

Defensively, Strom has that range 1 bubble which proved useful but still not quite useful enough as it wasn't easy to get in range 1 and all the TLTs don't even attack with range 1 - though the Dorsal Turret changes things~

If you want to use the Governor (Strom) more effectively, there's also the other option - Advanced Sensors & Intimidation - for a flying headbutt attack.

I would think to get the most out of intimidation you would want enhanced scopes. Intel agent somewhere else in the list would be nice too...

If you move first, then the enemy ship will move after you and no longer be touching you.

Won't that negate the value of Intimidation?

Nope. You move first into the spot where they want to go. Then they bump into you making intimidation come into effect for the subsequent shooting phase. Next turn, if they are still alive, then yeah, they will probably move away from you...

Ah, I see. The "flying headbutt attack" led me to believe the ship was doing the ramming.

Got it! :)

Well, I think he was talking about using advanced sensors to purposely get bumped by lower PS ships. So an enemy with lower PS moves, and you then move Strom right into them, but thanks to advanced sensors, still get an action. Its harder to pull off this way (just ask Arvel crynyd), so that's why I suggested Enhanced Scopes. Its just easier to cause collisions when you move first.

So I guess this can get filed in the juke category until legal but I just wanted to share.. I've been playing with proxy unreleased cards and one that I've found to be pretty sweet on vader is the thread tracer missiles.

Its 1 pt and so far I've got triple TLs from it twice and whats better is its focus activated. Nothing says bug out like getting locked by every enemy ship within 1-2 of vader.
