Should we expect an Attack Shuttle Expansion pack?

By dewbie420, in X-Wing

Two reasons why my brain thinks we will (maybe by season 3):

1. People wanna fly more than one.

2. The Phantom shuttle on the Rebels TV show had an overhaul. New engine work, astromech slot and hyperdrive were the obvious upgrades Quarrie's droid installed.

I know this stuff ain't even out yet, but I like the show and I'd like to have two Attack Shuttles flying.... I think having the Astromech will block the turret. (Maybe exchange the turret with the 'mech then have a Chopper astromech upgrade card that adds the boost action.)

FFG can add a little mech slot/hyperdrive to the model with Chopper's orange little head poppin' out, change the exhaust ports, etc.

No.

No. I'm not even sure you would buy one solo in the Star Wars universe. It is very geared to one role.

No.

The fact that all the Attack Shuttle pilots are unique in the Ghost expansion I think is FFGs way of saying "Hey, we aren't putting generics in here because we don't expect you to fly more than one of these."

With that said, I think it's safe to assume this is the only place we will see the Attack Shuttle. That is, unless the Rebels really struggle to find new ships to release in future waves. If that for some reason becomes the case, I can see them revisiting this lil guy. Though I'd rather they didn't. Not the prettiest ship.

Okay. :(

Attack Shuttle Aces pack confirmed. Generic pilot PS2 is 'Spectre Pilot', cost 18.

Who wouldn't want two more of these things, right?

I think at this point,

Counterpoint: the ship has four pilots and looks like they should all fit in a 100-point game, so clearly they expect us to buy four expansion packs.

They expect the most dedicated of players to buy multiples. But I believe the way they have it set up, with the members of the team available in a combination of a pilot on the Ghost, a pilot on the Phantom, and crew in the slots available, they feel they are satisfying the more casual players desire to field numerous members of the team at once.

But ya, there will definitely be players buying more than 1 Ghost to field multiple Attack Shuttles.

I remember an interview where the designers mentioned being surprised by Fortress builds, since they didn't think people would buy two Falcons.

I don't think they'll make that mistake again.

EDIT: At present, it also looks like the Ghost will be the only way to get more copies of Reinforced Deflectors and Thermal Detonators.

Oooooh. I totally missed the Thermal Detonators. Those tokens are tiny!

EDIT: Wait, there is one like a Seismic Charge and three tiny ones. Maybe the tiny ones are for a mission. Maybe that tiny Sabine token has a Thermal Detonator on the back.

I'm fairly confident that the tiny tokens are for a scenario of some kind. The thermal detonator is probably the Seismic Charge-sized token next to the cluster mines.

I think you're right. I was just typing that at the same time as you apparently. :P

Why would they do that when some people will just spend another (insert local currency here) on another Ghost or 3?

Seems unlikely but wouldn't be surprised to see it either.

Nope you want more you buy more ghosts.

the attack shuttle is reserved strictly for the crew of the Ghost

Buy more Ghosts, sell / give the model away - to friends, family, re-painters or collectors playing the game. It's not a total loss - there's a bunch of upgrades and bombs that are totally new, not available elsewhere or rare, on models you may not want to buy.

Like I said in the Ghost thread, it bothers the **** out of me that FFGs is setting up the Ghost as though it's a one-of-a-kind ship.

Between not having generic pilots for the shuttle, and having all of the docking mechanics directly tied to the unique Title upgrades, it makes it seem like VCX-100s with Attack Shuttles don't exist outside the Ghost. As far as I know, that's not the case.

Personally, I hope the Attack Shuttle gets it's own expansion pack with generic pilots at some point. Though it still doen't fix the Titles problem. Also would like to see it get an upgrade that gives it an Astromech slot.

Astromech + crew + EPT is just asking for something to break the game. Chopper is a crew. That is enough.

Same is true for the Hound's Tooth. Is Bossk really the only freighter pilot to put a Z-95 in his YV-666? But maybe he is, and maybe the Ghost is the only one with an attack shuttle. We just don't know one way or the other.

It's just part of the game. Sometimes the designers make something unique for gameplay purposes and not necessarily for thematic reasons. And let's face it, the vast majority of people are probably interested in a docked attack shuttle specifically because they want it to be the Ghost and Phantom. Could the designers have made that mechanic non-unique? They could have, but it would probably still use titles. And then how would you get the Ghost and Phantom titles?

We could do this for a bunch of titles. Why not a Han Solo wannabe who modded his YT-1300 so it can evade like the Falcon? What about another Firespray with Proton Torpedoes? How about a different G-1A starfighter with a Tractor Beam equipped? These are all fun ways to give unique ships something special besides just a name. They may not be truly unique in the Star Wars galaxy, but it makes us players feel that these ships are a cut above the rest.

I know I have certainly been assuming that the phantom being able to dock to the ghost was a (pretty major) modification done to the ship and not something that came stock with the VCX.

I think yes we probably will. But not for a number of years. When Rebels has had a number of years for more seasons with new characters, they'll put out another attack shuttle that contains those characters as crew and pilots. Might even contain new cardboard for the VCX.

Named ships can have different owners. A generic YT-1300 with falcon title can represent a pre Han and Lando falcon that was not as heavily modified.

Also not every yv-666 pilot is gonna be as good with Nashta pup. Moralo can't shoot cannons on a Z so it's not as useful to him beyond having a 6 pt headhunter after his ship blows.

The big thing is that we're probably not going to be seeing anything all that amazing coming out the dial of the shuttle. Maybe even not of the Ghost for that matter.
