Victory class Star Destroyers built around 0BBY?

By Erahard, in Star Wars: Age of Rebellion RPG

I am writing an adventure in which a newly built Imperial Victory Star Destroyer plays a crucial role. The adventure can take place at some point between 1BBY an 2ABY and it is important that the Star destroyer is has just finished being built or it is very close to completion (by the Empire ofc).

For me as a GM coherence is very important, so my question is: As a player or a GM reading the adventure would you find believable that ships of that class are still being in production? If not, would you find an Interdictor class or a Vindicator class more adequate for that time period? An Imperial class is too big for what I have planned so that is not being considered.

Thanks.

An Interdictor would probably be a tad better suited.

Alternately, if really like the victory, you could have it as the last Victory-II to roll off the line. The differences between the Vic I and II are pretty small (less concussion missile tubes, more turbolasers, a few other odds and end that likely won't effect your game in any meaningful way) and as the final ship to roll off the line that would make it a media event, so there's reason for a large crowd to be in attendance. Newsbeings, old servicemen that used to serve on them, crusty old dock workers that built them for years, and just the usual navy buffs that happened to be in the neighborhood would all be present to see the thing leave the drydock and make it's first jump.

You could always take a Victory SD's stats, dress them up a bit, and call it a prototype for a new class.

Maybe they were kept in production for Imperial vassal states that wanted Star Destroyers but weren't allowed to buy the newer models and something happened that caused this particular ship to be reassigned to the Imperial Starfleet, a replacement for a ship lost to the rebels or a temporary replacement needing major repairs after a major rebel attack perhaps.

I'd use the Interdictor, myself.

Does it have to be new, or can it be older but just have left the yards after a prolonged refit? If the latter, then the Victory would work fine.

Or it could be a Victory SD leaving the shipyards for one final tour of duty before being decommissioned. Not sure if that would satisfy your needs but it just popped into my head as an idea.

Thanks for all the nice ideas. I will probably use an interdictor class ship thought the idea of using a retiring Victory class ship is very attractive. As y most of you have guessed I am asking this because I am planning a "Grand theft Star Destroyer" mission and I need a reason for the ship to have only a partial crew.

A Victory class ship to be decommisioned is a good idea.

I love the idea of it being decommissioned or the last one produced, perhaps after delays or contractual issues. There's something magnificent about something being the last of its line. "The Last Victory". With a title like that, the adventure practically writes itself! :)

EDIT: In fact..., *yoink* :D :D

I like the soon-to-be-decommissioned idea myself. Perhaps most of the crew has already left for their new assignments and a small skeleton crew remains on board to fly it to whatever shipyard will scrap it.
