Special Modifications! Technician Career Book Announced!

By Dr Lucky, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

By my guess, we won't see any news for this until after the releases of Lead by Example and Nexus of Power.

I kept telling myself I wouldn't bother with career books. Plenty of material in core, sector, and adventure books for me and I would keep my shelf from being too weighed down.

I did not anticipate just how much I would want this supplement. Sigh...

BAH! Hurry up stupid printer and spit out your books so I can get frustrated at waiting for the boat to not be fast enough!

Looks like someone rolled a despair on their willpower check.

I hope we're getting Astromechs. A Bounty Hunter Astromech seems cool :P

Well, it still shows as At The Printer - but lets assume that it gets on the boat tomorrow. Six weeks would be March 11th, eight would be the 25th. Another week for shipping to the stores, putting us at the 1st - so Amazon's date is worse case scenario.

Well, worst case scenario would be the boat hits an iceberg and sinks. But baring James Cameron Levels of disaster, I'd say we have a window of about the 18th to the 1st.

When does it get on the FailBoat?

Just let the races be: Bessalisk, Bith, and Ugnaught.

For those who'd like a ballpark figure on it's release: according to Amazon, it has the book listed as being available on May 31st.

I hate to say it, but the Amazon dates for these books are notoriously unreliable. Especially when the postings are by one of the 3rd party vendors (which is pretty much all of them). Poor Strongholds of Resistance actually showed a May 2015 date at one point and wasn't released until November. :( Basically these places put dates towards the end of the quarter FFG says the book is coming out in hopes of getting pre-orders, but there's no guarantee they're actually there on time. It sucks, but it's been the pattern.

Has anyone read what Amazon says the species are? I know it's an unreliable source, but Amazon was right about Chronicles of the Gatekeeper and the Sathari.

I'm still holding out hope for a Jawa

My hope/guess is Besalisk, Jawa, and Verpine (reprint). But Verpine could easily be substituted for Ugnaught

I like to think Strongholds of Resistance was an exceptional case due to the dockworkers' strike, but I agree that you can't really count on Amazon to give an accurate release date.

However, they do list Dugs, "Basilisks," and Mustafarians as playable species, and they've been right before. Sure hope that's a misspelling of Besalisk, otherwise my game might take a sudden right turn...

Well, I Dig Dug, Besalisk are handy, but I always thought mustafarian smelt bad.

Dugs and Mustafarians? Career book species selection seems to consist of throwing darts at a board.

Dugs are cool, but agree on the Mustafarian being out of left field.

Well, you can't say they don't fit the theme of being Technicians, although they are a little obscure.

Considering Mustafar's connection to the Techno Union it makes some sense. Not exactly an obvious choice for the book, but not too wildly far off the mark either, in my opinion.

I don't have a problem with Dugs. I like 'em. And a Google image search of "Mustafarian" shows illustrations of ones working forges - a skill picked up from living on a lava planet, I suppose - so it makes a sort of sense.

However, every canon Ughnaught appearance I can recall has them carrying tools and working heavy machinery which puts them, consciously or sub-consciously, in the "technician" realm. Same with Jawas, though they've always felt more like immigrant used-car salesmen to me... "Buddy-friend, you buy droid, yes? Is good droid, yes! You sell speeder? Come on, bro!"

I mentioned up thread that FFG's style was to simply pick three species and justify their inclusion after the fact in the text. That's fine. While the only canon Besalisks that we've seen are a diner owner and a Jedi traitor, I'm sure the writers will make sure we understand why they make good techs. It just makes predicting what will come out in what book kind of a bummer, since there doesn't seem to be any logic that we on the outside can understand.

There's a decent chance they're saving some of the seemingly obvious choices (like Jawas and Ugnaughts) for other books. We're about due for another sector book to be announced I think.

BAH! Stupid boat! Why aren't you faster!

Yeah, I'm a bit mystified at the choice of Mustafarians. I don't have a *problem* with them per se, but they seem rather...vague and underdeveloped.

Not sure why they didn't go with Skakoans, to be honest.
