Special Modifications! Technician Career Book Announced!

By Dr Lucky, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

They don't know any spoilers, but they've worked ahead of time to release X-wing related material, which takes some time to design and produce, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that they've had some foresight into the species. The RPGs have often been the largest source of detailed information regarding species we see only a few seconds off, and only biggest of nerds (usually RPG fans) would care about the intricate details of said species history, culture and planet anyway.

I find it highly unlikely, sure, seeing as we don't know how long the book has been in the works, but not impossible.

New species, especially if they're relevant to the movie itself as opposed to Star Wars in general, would likely be spoiler information. X Wing and Ties are common Star Wars items. And it's not like I'm saying we'll never see material from the movie. I just don't think this is going to be the book where we get anything related to the movie. The next one they announce for this line? Sure that sounds more likely than this book.

Eh, I doubt a lot of the new species introduced will be important to the story. A character, maybe, but Lucasfilm can still feed FFG all the information they want without spoiling the surprise. It won't be until Ep. IX that we get an adorably inappropriate creature that will save the galaxy with slingshots and potato guns.

I find it highly unlikely that Disney would wait all the way till IX to unleash that little cash cow onto it's fans.

I suspect we will get them next January. As it takes a year to produce a book and FFG does not have advanced knowledge.

REALLY? I check the site yesterday: nothing on. And today this thread is already at THREE PAGES? I feel so robbed...

Welcome to the rabid fan club! :P

Zabrak seems like a possible repeat species for the Bounty Hunter book.

All I know is this: If FFG wanted to substitute the more logical Devaronians in the "Fly Casual" book (see "Rebels" and *any* Ostrander-penned Quinlan Vos/Clone Wars comics) with the freakin' Gotal?!? Then the Devaronians *better* show up in that bounty hunter book!

Actually just posting to show wild excitement for this book, so here it goes...

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

Awesome. While I want the Bounty Hunter book to come soon in the hope that it has my second favorite Star Wars fighter in it but I want the expanded crafting rules badly and hope they cover vehicles and starships as well. I wonder what new ships will appear in this? I figure a few Corellian ships are inevitable since they are known to be designed to be customized but I'm hoping we get some Capital ships to play with rather then just fighters and transports.

Thank the maker!

Looking forward to the slicing rules.

And I wonder how they'll differentiate the Besalisk from the Xexto?

Quick spoiler for everyone:

This book is amazing!

Three pages?

I count myself lucky to get a post on the 2nd page!

This book looks great.

It's a shame the Bounty Hunter one will be last, though.

In 5 years I'll be glad it was last as it has the best chance of being AMAZING! With the most practice they could have had. But right now I want all 12 remaining Career books released tomorrow.

And the list of specs to add to a single character grows~

Please have Jawa... Please, please.

I would be shocked if Jawa's didn't make it into the Technician book.

In my first ever Edge of the Empire game nearly a year and a half ago I chose to be a straight up slicer, as with any tech-based campaign world characters that can manipulate the world around them is such a unique fashion should have been amazing fun to play. Sadly this was not the case, the limited rules for what Slicers can actually do makes the talents almost worthless.

Outlaw tech, much the same talents such as Inventor and those like it fired the imagination into allsorts of cool and wonderful items that were just begging to be created, sadly, again, there were no rules governing it.

This led to extreme frustration and I ended up leaving the game until recently.

My soul can now rest easy, with the release of the Technician book I hope inspire my own players to really take advantage of these specs.

FFG, You are promising a lot to many who dream of playing these specs to the boundless limits of the imagination, DO NOT LET US DOWN!!!!!!

(Please)

Sound more like a problem with your GM than the actual rules. A Slicer can do alot of thing. Same thing with the Outlaw tech.

I'd click the "kill it with fire" button, but apparently the forum software doesnt support that functionality yet.

I would be surprised if Jawas make it in.

Then again, the appearance of featured species in the career books tends to be justified in the text of said career books rather than writers meeting pre-existing fan expectations or treatments in earlier games. I have no idea why a Besalisk would be included in this book but there they are.

I would posit that, as the bounty hunter book is all that remains for careers and the space-faring and technologically competent Ugnaughts have yet to get a PC write-up, they seem to be a more logical choice for techs. This is the only book where they would really fit into the FFG Star Wars line, especially the EotE series. If FFG decides that Jawas are as justifiable for PCs as Tusken Raiders, I would expect them in a shadowport sourcebook that had Tatooine as a featured planet. Or in a published adventure module that took place on Tatooine.

Yeah I agree.. And Sam Stewart has said they have a road map with what species will be in what books...

Honestly, I'm fairly ambivalent. While Jawas are cute and all, I agree with your reasoning about Ugnaughts. Neither myself nor my players have ever expressed an interest in playing as either species, though.

Jawas would be more appropriate in a location sourcebook, one that's likely to feature Tatooine without actually being entirely focused on Tatooine. (I think someone mentioned a shadowport sourcebook?)
