Special Modifications! Technician Career Book Announced!

By Dr Lucky, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

So is it safe to pressumed that the book will be in stores by the end of the week?

Also, is Nexus of Power already out in stores?

You're asking us? I doubt by the end of this week though. I know some people are getting Nexus, so it's cropping up.

For the past year, all releases have happened on a Thursday, so Nexus of Power should be officially released tomorrow. I was assuming that Special Modifications would be released next Thursday the 24th; it went to "Shipping Now" exactly a week after Nexus, but the line in the recent news post makes me think there's a possibility it might be tomorrow, too.

I think it's a small possibility, but a possibility. Although, thinking about it, why put out a preview a day before the official release?

That doesn't necessarily mean it's out, though. Books are usually accompanied by an official "Release" news post, and the one from today says it's only a "Preview."

And the status still says shipping. And like I said, all books in the past year have been put out on Thursdays. So if it's this week (unlikely, in my opinion),it'll be tomorrow we'll hear about it.

The book depository dates listed are:

Special Modifications: 22 March

Nexus of Power: 30 March

Savage Spirits: 22 April

Now that doesn't mean those are the dates for everyone obviously, but the spacing should be relevant, so an "out now" for Nexus announcement next week, then Savage Spirits in a month.

we must be due for some new product announcements, perhaps tomorrow which is why SM had the "out now" article today... fingers crossed!

Problem with that is people have supposedly already gotten Nexus.

And remember, the news post we got last week about Nexus said it would be out, "...next Thursday." Which is tomorrow. Which makes sense based upon the history of this line of of products. At this point, anything that says anything other than March 17 for Nexus's release date is wrong. And a release date other than March 24 for Special Modifications is highly suspect.

As for Savage Spirits, my best guess on a release date is May 19, at the earliest. It needs at least 40 days "On the Boat" (I've not seen it take less than six weeks, but i have seen it take longer) and another 16 shipping, which puts us at May 12 by itself. I don't know how long printing normally takes, so add on the printing time to May 12, and then move it to the closest Thursday, and that's your release date.

EDIT: For new product announcements, my data is much less precise so I have no good guess. But I hope it'll be soon! The odds are on getting another adventure for both Age and Force, and another Region book for Edge, but I'll always hold out hope for another career book!

Although if we don't get an Age announcement by Tuesday, it'll be the longest any of the three lines has gone without SOMETHING upcoming.

(If you couldn't tell, data analysis is sort of my thing. Sorry if I'm coming on a bit strong about this, I'm just that sure of the numbers. Yes, I know patterns can and do change, I just don't think they're going to in this instance.)

Nexus is certainly already out. I saw copies at my FLGS, sadly, I ordered mine through MM, which haven't shipped out yet.

I measure the official release dates (because my FLGS stands by them, so that's what matters most to me :) ), which means I go by when FFG puts up the news post that says "Hey, this book you want is finally out!" But I have heard of several people/places that start receiving/selling them early.

Feel free to start tracking using the dates that are the most pertinent to you! But my numbers, and therefore my estimates, use the official FFG dates, because those are the ones that determine when I can get my hands on a book. Mmmm. Books...*gurglegurgle*

Apparently my FLGS has already sold out of Nexus - disappointing, since I wanted to look at it at least, but since I have mine coming from MM too, I'm not tripping out.

My FLGS hasn't gotten theirs yet... but hopefully tomorrow, which means I might pick mine up Friday.

...Your...FLGS has sold out of a book they're technically not supposed to be selling yet?

That's impressive. Also, good! It means that there's lots of demand for the game and FFG will HAVE to continue putting out books. Right? Right?

Mine doesn't get the books in until Friday, so I can't get them until then. And no, I can't go during my lunch hour and pick it up to browse during the second half of the work day. I've tried that. They don't have them inventoried until that evening. *Sigh*

Having worked the trade, a sell-out on pre-order before stock arrives is well and truly possible.

Sadly, I am in Australia, and I must wait at least a week extra for most releases.

I feel for you. I hate having to wait when other people already have something. Hang in there!

I used to have an internet retailer that would ship me books well prior to the street date. Alas, I think they decided to stop that practice for whatever reason. Imagine my surprise in getting books a full week ahead of stores!

Must...resist...the urge to order online...I like my FLGS too much to...not buy there...

I used to buy all my books through my FLGS, but they don’t have a great relationship with their distributor, and it would sometimes take weeks to get books that were currently in stock elsewhere. And it was very hit or miss as to whether or not they would get any copies of new FFG SWRPG books as they came out.

So, I love those guys and I am happy to game down there every week, but I feel that I have to order my books elsewhere.

My FLGS only shows Nexus, which is a shame because I had thought both came out today. I was looking forward to saving on two trips out of town.

Maybe the store will have it when I get there. Who knows. I sure hope so, since they said they should have both today and FFG says it's available.

Upcoming page shows Nexus in stores, so hopefully SMs isn't far off.

I'm almost positive that the line in the "Thank the Maker" post saying that Special Modifications is available now was a mistake, and it will be released next Thursday. Doesn't mean your FLGS might not have it in, but it won't be officially released until next week.

This is what has happened to me. I used to be able to just walk in on release day or within a week and almost always get a copy of FFG RPG stuff (Warhammer, Star Wars). After a few misses I started calling before I took the hour trip. During the last year of releases I've called during release day or week and they've never once had anything. So while I really, really, want to support them it has become difficult. Finding a book on a shelf I've always enjoyed over ordering (there it is!) But, my favorite store has gotten to the point of being just an order then pick up store with a high mark up price and a 2 hour round trip.

I'm almost positive that the line in the "Thank the Maker" post saying that Special Modifications is available now was a mistake, and it will be released next Thursday. Doesn't mean your FLGS might not have it in, but it won't be officially released until next week.

Is it official when you see it in stores? or is it official when an office declares it so?

Of the local FLGSes:

Two have shut down.

One new place has opened, but it's 90% CCG stuff, and really a gaming space for the owners that pays for itself by selling CCGs and energy drinks and crap.

The last one has reduced its new RPG materials to 3 full-height shelving sections, with 2 dedicated mainly to AD&D and Pathfinder, and the third full of random stuff that's priced at $75+ because of who the author is, or because it's 500 pages with 200+ pages of random semi-relevant artwork .

Is it official when you see it in stores? or is it official when an office declares it so?

That's the question, isn't it? And that depends on your point of view. For me, it's official when the company producing the books says so. For you, it may be when your bookstore gets it in Stock and puts it out for purchase.

But that's irrelevant at the moment, as I haven't heard of anyone saying that they've gotten their hands on this book yet.
