Special Modifications! Technician Career Book Announced!

By Dr Lucky, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

At least it's on the boat now. When I checked yesterday morning it was still at the printer. It looks like it transitioned sometime yesterday afternoon.

So it's probably sitting in a cargo container on a pier in China somewhere. Sorry Desslok, I don't think it will be here in time for the start of our next campaign....tomorrow.

Per Amazon:

"

  • A full-color, 96-page supplement for Star Wars: Edge of the Empire
  • Adds Cyber Tech, Droid Tech, and Modder specializations to the Technician Career
  • Introduces Dugs, Basilisks, and Mustafarians as playable species
  • Features copious new gear including droids, vehicles, cybernetics and slicing tools
  • Offers expanded rules for slicing and for crafting devices, weapons, and droids
"
Personally, none of these races hold much interest to me, but I'm shallow and like my characters to be aesthetically pleasing.

I'm curious if Besalisks will get the same racial ability that Xexto did having 4 arms.

SadMarcy for having no 'aesthetically pleasing' (as SplitLight put it) species. I was kinda hoping for Arkanians seeing as they've cropped up in the adventures. :(

For whatever reason, they seem to be saving the 'pretty' species for Force & Destiny...

Still, it's on the boat, which is something... unless it's the same boat that delivered 'Strongholds of Resistance':6845a7ff3b0ded30c5eeccb9eaec15efd7962aad

Yeah, I'm a bit mystified at the choice of Mustafarians. I don't have a *problem* with them per se, but they seem rather...vague and underdeveloped.

Not sure why they didn't go with Skakoans, to be honest.

Writers love underdeveloped stuff because it gives them much more liberty to develop it. Mustafarians are a ripe blank slate just waiting to have all kinds of creative stuff invented about them. :)

N...no Jawas?

Me so sad.

Especially, that Gungans were introduced before Jawas...

Dont you mean "Mesa So Saden"?

If you think about it, though, Mustafarians must be pretty hot.

Besalisk's I am quite happy about, as I liked those lumbering four armed moustache wearers.

But Why FFG? Who in their right mind put the Jawas on hold? I mean....

Oooohhh

We're gonna get some world sourcebook where Tatooine is described en detaille and we're gonna get Jawas...

To be fair ..... Strongholds was held up due to a strike. The last batch of books were all held up due to strikes. Soooo we really can't blame the boats when odds are strong that the boats arrived in a timely fashion but due to a strike the dockworkers didn't unload them.

Keepers of the Peace broke through on time. It gives me hope that we'll be returning back to a more regular release schedule.

This one was a little under 2 months initial announcement to on the boat. Here's hoping.

No Jawa's??? With a droid tech specialisation? Seems like a missed opportunity....

Also, I think Jawa's have been the most requested species thusfar... Oh well, I hope we get to see them one day.

Don't worry people, I'm sure Jawas will be in the innevitable Tatooine sourcebook that makes its way into EVERY thing Star Wars. Every game, novel, veraion of the RPG, etc. Except for the Force Awakens.. That had Jakku.

Yeah i suspect the Tatooine region book is where we will get sand people and Jawas. As that would be the logical place for them and by putting them there it frees up something else to go in the tech book.

And Ugnaughts could be in a region book including Bespin or the technician book for Age.

Apparently there is some sort of map for the species at the FFG office. Someone send a infiltrator or Bothan to retrieve it....

But what else would be in the Tatooine book? What would it be called? Desolate places? Hives of Scum & Villainy?

"The planet furthest from"

But what else would be in the Tatooine book? What would it be called?

'The Bright Centre of the Universe (the planet that's supposedly furthest from anything interesting, but where in fact pretty much everything of galactic importance happens)'.

(Did'ja know Darth Krayt was born there too?)

I'm pretty sure Jakku is actually just Tattooine with the road signs changed :)

"The planet furthest from"

That's a good one! But what other planets to put inside?

Just make a Shadowport Sourcebook. You'd hit a broader range of options, and you'd get to include Tatooine. Jawas could be included, and I would add Gamorrean as well.

That would be an AWESOME Edge source book.

I wasn't able to retrieve it physically, but I did get a picture of it:

(no Bothans were harmed in the retrieval, fortunately...)

On a serious note, I'd love to know what their rationale is. They must have one, but it seems random to me. I cannot think of worse examples than Arcona and Chevin for the 'Core World Guy Out Of His Depth On The Fringe' book.

If I was doing it, I'd do something like this, in the aim of keeping everyone happy (assuming three species per book).

a) a humanoid species, for players who want to play something that would have a speaking part in a movie or be on the film poster, or who might be the lead character in a novel. Twi'leks, togruta, zabraks, etc.

b) something more exotic, very different from above, for those who want to play something offbeat. Maybe taken from an unexpected or esoteric source in the EU. Amani, gamorreans, yarkorans, defel, etc.

c) something totally iconic to the book at hand. Something that's indelibly associated in the minds of fans with the career or location the book covers. Jawas or Ugonauts for the Tech book, for instance.

I think that would please everyone really.

So for the Tech book, you could have

a) Arkonians. That's your 'pretty' race right there.

b) Geonosians. That's your 'exotic' race done.

c) Jawas. because everyone associates them with tech.

At the moment, I guess only fans of (b) are really being catered to. I'm not sure really what besalisks or dugs have to with being especially 'techy'. <shrug>
