So I'm gonna reach out there an speculate which species we might get based on one of the specializations (that sentence had a lot of "spec" syllables):

Droid Technician: Jawas. I mean, JAWAS. Finally!

Also on the Mandalorian Sector Book discussion: There is a ton of material actually on the mandalorians themselves. It could be like the Strongholds of Resisctance Book, which itself is a book on Rebel worlds and those are not just in one sector of the galaxy. So a mandalorian source book could happen with all the worlds the mandalorians had a huge impact on. Correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the BioWare RPGs made canon? If so then the Cathar conflict with the Mandalorians IS A THING and could be discussed in that book. And of course the cathar could be oe of the new species discussed in such a book.

Aside from it showing up in the Clone Wars animated series, it appears in the recent Luke Skywalker novel (http://www.amazon.com/Journey-Star-Wars-Skywalker-Adventure-ebook/dp/B00V6YWFMU/ref=dp_kinw_strp_1). I will avoid spoilers other than he meets and interacts with a character that is rumored to be in the new film.

However... Only the first three of your examples were indeed males. The first had zero description on Wookieepedia so he doesn't really count. The second was an ancestor of smuggler Villie Grahrk and was part of cut content from KOTOR II so he doesn't really count. The third example? Hey, I'll give you that one!

I am 100% in agreement with having the Devaronian species specs in an EotE publication though....mainly on the grounds that the only film appearance was in the Mos Eisley Cantina and that Cikatro Vizago is the leader of a crime syndicate in the outer rim in Rebels. Farnay, the female Devaronian Luke befriends in "The Weapon of a Jedi" is the daughter of a starship mechanic...so maybe there's a chance they will show up in the Technician career book....though, the novel was likely written after FFGs road map for species/career specs/books was nailed down, so who knows?

Maybe they felt they wanted to get the Devaronian's out there and didn't want to wait till they had a more appropriate EotE book? I mean without knowing what species are in there we can't really second guess them being in a Force and Destiny book. The good thing is that there will be official stats on them, even if it's not in an EotE book the stats are still usable and aren't stats now better than stats a year or two from now? It's not like you have to buy the F&D book to get them. People have posted the species stats before and I'm sure once Nexus of Power hits people will post them then and sooo if you're not really interested in buying the book I'm sure it will be easy to get the information you want.

For all we know the Devaroian stats were meant to offset putting Gungans in the book, giving people something that FFG knows they want at the same time the put in a species that general generates fan ire. Maybe they're a peace offering.

And since you did bring up the Temple of Eedit, in addition to avoiding the planet of hats they could be developing the temple there and as such felt adding the species related to the temple on a planet that is featuring in the book is more appropriate than just sticking the species in a random EotE book.

Yeah as much as I love WEG and much of the Legends material assuming that because the one or two members of a species seen on screen was something meant whatever they were doing was the norm for their culture was insane.

Or that every background character in the Mos Eisley cantina is some sort of spy on an important mission or a legendary bounty hunter. I prefer to think that at least half of those aliens were just day-drinking locals.

Except that Star Wars is *meant* to be fantasy.

It's a pretty common thing in any such setting for mass generalizations to apply pretty well across the board, and for any deviation to be truly exceptional, and often the focus of a particular plot arc.

It's not meant to accurately reflect the variety and nuance of the current population of Earth in any way. You might as accurately nitpick that EotE got the Hutts all wrong, and they're not all sleazy gangsters just because the only one we got to see in a movie happened to be like that.

Even getting out of SW and going into regular fantasy we see similar generalizations that hold true across entire cultures or races (when you think of elves, you think nature, archery, grace, etc. while dwarves are typically short, gruff miners and craftsmen...sure there are bound to be some exceptions, but they're few enough that the stereotype is meaningful).

Really, in Star Wars, aside from humans, there aren't too many races that are very immune to this. Twi'leks are likely the most prominent example, but other than that, there's not a whole lot.

Seriously what is the big deal about the Devaronians being in an F&D book? If they are in Nexus of Power that means they'll likely get an even deeper write up than they would if they had just been in this book. Based on what we saw in Strongholds being featured in a book like that likely means their planet is going to be covered in some fashion (as was the case with the Quarrens. the Polis Massans, and what we know of the Gungans in Nexus of Power). I would think more background detail would be a good thing. That getting a better treatment than they would have received by just being in this book (ignoring of course that we have no idea which ones are in this book) would be a good thing overall. For all we know based on what gets talked about in the book NoP was the better choice than anything EotE could have done for them.

I really love the artwork we get of species options but I'm beginning to wish there was some POD decks to help in remind everyone what each species looks like and a small background to go along with the art. Or just a small reference book, all it needs is the picture, a species name and page reference for where they are found

I typically have to look them up myself. There are far to many to keep track of.

That doesn't exactly make it a good trope to continue to follow. And I still wondering why it's such a big deal that they get presented in a book that isn't EotE. It's not like the stats are system specific. And it's not like you'd have to buy the book to get them if you didn't want to. People on the forums would be more than happy to let you know what they are if you asked politely. As I pointed out earlier, this may be a good thing for them in the long run if it leads to deaper development of them beyond just a stereotype.

I don't think anyone is saying that they'd rather not see them at all if they aren't in an EotE source...just that it would have probably been a better fit.

Not sure why your previous post comparing the fantasy SW universe to that of D&D/LotR did not get more 'likes.' You made more sense in that post than in the several "let's see more diversity" posts that simply don't make sense in terms of the SW mythos.

And what many are failing to realize is I don't mind the use of Devaronians in a F&D book; I simply feel it's a bad fit as we've only seen three examples (in the EU) of Devaronian Jedi. Two of those were female. And one became a Sith Lord.

Yet we've had *many* examples in both canon and the EU of Devaronian smugglers and mercenaries.

Sooo... I'm only suggesting Devaronian species specs show up in a future EotE book. In addition to that F&D book.

Why? Because I am one of probably many people who are simply not going to buy all three SW lines of RPG books. I only purchase the "Han and Chewie" or EotE game materials. (The AoR stuff has been covered to death in the WEG and D20 games. And F&D, IMHO, flies in the face of everything we're supposed to believe in from the OT; it's fanwank BS having bands of Jedi running around between the original film and ESB.)

Oh, and bringing up that Jedi temple on Devaron? Well, I went back and watched that one episode... Turns out the Jedi were actually using that "temple" as a secret outpost to maintain control of the system. The CIS attacks the place and face a large number of clone scouts and only two Jedi - a master of some species I cannot identify and his padawan who is a Nautolan.

Again, I want to make sure my point is clear: I don't care if Devaronian specs show up in a F&D book as long as they also show up in a future EotE book.
