What to buy?

By Ken at Sunrise, in Star Wars: Armada

I think the game is cheaper than x wing because there isn't the buy x of this ship to be competitive.

I don't want to derail the thread too much. But Armada is not cheaper than X-Wing.

One of the most expensive waves for X-Wing was wave 2, the Falcon, Slave 1, A-Wing and Tie Interceptor. You could quite easily get away with 1 each of the large ship and 3 of the small ones. That put wave 2 at $150. In fact most X-Wing waves are ~$140.

Buying only 1 of each ship from Armada wave 2, will cost $160. Wave 1 cost $190 for 1 of each.

So no X-Wing is the cheaper option even if you do buy 3 or so of each small ship. Which doesn't mean Armada is super expensive...

I don't follow this. I used the X-Wing Mini Game X-Wing inventory Excel sheet someone came out with. I didn't include any scum or future stuff. Mostly 1 or 2 of everything else except: 4 x TIE Fighter; 3 x A-Wing; 4 x B-Wing and it came to 1,137.60 MSRP and 769.48 discounted. I can get 1 of everything in Armada and have plenty for around $300 plus from MM. If I get rid of the Epic ships that is still almost $600 discounted.

Awesome. From what I have been reading getting 2 each of the fighter expansions seemed like that was the way people were going to recommend. So I expected that. I happy that no one is suggesting multiple capital or support ships.

I would agree with the 2 of the fighter squadrons. However, as a casual player you will really only need 1 of the Rogues & Vilains squadron pack. Because really, other than competitive lists, who's going to fly a generic YT-1300 or Firespray? It's the Millenium Falcon and Slave I!

I was wondering if I even needed the Rouges & Villains? Any good reason?

R&V?

if a one-of, it's basically Jan Ors and Dengar. They're great squadron support, especially if you like bombers

IG-88 and Bossk are also pretty potent and independent little ships

personally feel Boba, Han, and possibly Dash are too expensive

Nym is a complete crapshoot so I don't like him

the generic YT-2400 and Firespray seem pretty powerful, but I don't know how much just one will do for your list. I personally bought 3 packs :P

still getting used to the generic Scrugg (lol) Bomber, but it's basically a Y-wing what had a baby with a B-wing. Don't think there's much point in just getting one of them either, but I suppose it can mix in with the Ys pretty well

Well they're iconic. At least some of them.

Also, the Rogue keyword does allow you to make a fleet that does not heavily support fighters, and still have them be relatively effective. Rogues are a bit more expensive on a per stand basis, but they allow you to make some fleet builds more effective. That's the single strongest overall argument I can make for R and V.

At least that's the impression I've gotten...again, not a lot of personal experience with Wave 2 yet.

Are you comparing 2 waves of Armada to 7 waves plus 2 aces packs for X-Wing? Because that's hardly a fair comparison.

Because if you look at the typical price per wave, X-Wing is quite simply a bit cheaper, it's not really debatable. That's true even if you get 3 of each small ship, and not many people do that any more.

Now if you're going to buy wave 1 & 2 of Armada and call it done. Then yes you'll spend less money on Armada, but that doesn't make it cheaper, it just means you've spent less money, because you have bought less stuff.

Good point.

not sure why this is relevent, but

Armada is priced exactly as the upper level of X-wing

the cr-90s and Nebs cost the same as your Starvipers/K-wings/punishers

your GSDs run for the same as a large ship in X-wing

your Assault Frigate and VSD runs the same as your Decimators and Hound's Teeth (Heh)

your ISD, the biggest ship in the game so far, costs the same as the Ghost + phantom, the biggest ship in standard X-wing

Because we are Star Wars fanboys.... and it's the Millenium Falcon.

The Millenium Falcon.

See... it's the Millenium Falcon.

Am I making any sense here?

Thank you everyone for your help and ideas.

I will probably try to get one of everything and 2 of of each fighter pack.

Raider maybe a second one, maybe...

Rouges probably not

Then I'll have another Star Wars game I need to find players for.

Geez I collect more than I actually play, what's wrong with this picture.

Nothing wrong with being a collector. You know you've gone overboard once you pick up the actual Howard The Duck.
