Ok, 2 Whales and MC80 with Akbar. What other setup and deployment options are there besides congo line? I have been trying to do something different because I will be playing people that know my tactics, but can't. Worried about ISD and bunch of glads.
Rebel Tactics
If what you have is what you have, then that's the routine. Ackbar like all Admirals, have no Range restriction, so really, your only other shot is aggressive maneouver slamming you through their line of advance. Preferably with a Whale on the Flank to keep things busy.
However, there's a reason why the Conga-Line has its reputation.
Whatever you do, you need weight of firepower to break an ISD... You need Speed to avoid the Glad. If you're lucky, you can multi-target the Glads with AF-Frigate-Gunnery-Team firepower... But who knows.
All of this is very nebulous without further specifics.
Look up some of the great battles of the Napoleonic wars. Trafalgar, The Nile. Or look at the Battles of lake Erie or Lake Champlain. Admittedly you will need to modify the tactics to face an Imperial fleet, but in a mirror match, you can almost use them as a playbook.
I've always like a 2 ship / 1 ship split. 2 ships go off and conga line one side of the enemy formation, and the other ship hangs back to go the other way. Split your opponents fire, or punish them for leaving a soft, juicy flank exposed.
Comedy option is of course to run the 1 ship directly into the enemy formation - the infamous "slash".
