Damage output for assault proton torpedos

By FellowPT, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Just to clarify. If I roll 1 black crit and I declare APT as my critical effect the ship then takes 1 damage for the roll plus the one face up damage card from ATP.

Is this correct?

Never mind. I found out it does. Thanks

No if you roll a critical and hit hull on a ship you have to choose either to have the critical effect deal a face up damage card OR use the critical effect for a card effect

APT is helpful when first attacking a ship before going to hull . Once you enter hill they are useless

You are correct in the first instance, but you are incorrect in your second.

What he was asking was wether that Critical Symbol Showing on the Die still counts as "One Damage" for the purpose of calculating the total amount of Damage done, and it does .

So say the enemy has Shields remaining. I throw one Black Die, and get the "Hit / Crit" facing.

I elect to use Assault Proton Torpedos, in which case, I immediately deal one Face Up Damage Card.

Then, when we get to the "Calculate Damage" step, I look and see that I have caused "2" damage to the Shields, One for the Hit symbol, and one for the Crit Symbol (which, of course, may be reduced by brace, etc), for a Total of Three Damage Overall (one Faceup Card, and 2 points of Shields). However, for the purpose of Calculating the Damage Dealt (such as for Brace), we're only looking at the Die facings, and we see "2" there.

If I fire at a different ship getting the same result "Hit / Crit", but this time, there are NO shields... I can elect to have my Critical Hit do One Face Up Damage Card... Then, when we calculate Damage at the end step, I have still caused "2" damage, which, on Hull, would Equate to 2 more Face Down Damage Cards, for a Total of Three from this Attack, One which happened during the Critical part of the Attack Step, and two which are at the resolve damage step which could potentially be braced down to 1.

Don't forget that you resolve the critical effect BEFORE calculating damage which can cause some bell in the damage calculations that the defender did in the spend defense tokens step.
