Take on a Modern TIE Swarm

By rabid1903, in X-Wing Squad Lists

It's been a very long time since I've flown a TIE swarm, and the new pilots inspired me to try something new.

"Wampa" (14)

"Chaser" (14)

"Night Beast" (15)

"Howlrunner" (18)
Push the Limit (3)
Stealth Device (3)

Black Squadron Pilot (14)

Basically, this flies as a brick with Chaser as my go-to blocker if needed. Wampa provides some nice counter-ace coverage, but arc dodgers are still the main counter to this list. If I run into aces, then I'd fly this as two wedges of three: Wampa-Howl-Black Squad and Chaser-Night Beast-Youngster as the other. This would give good arc coverage, with C-N-Y acting as the primary flankers because W-H-B would likely be the primary target.

Should work. Expert Handling will be a nice option if you run into TIE advanced aces - yes, they move after you, but forcing them to spend their action getting their lock back will be good, especially on Howlrunner.

Chaser and Night Beast is a nice easy pair. One warning - Night Beast doesn't really like playing flanker because of his limited green moves. He's quite good leading a pack (alongside Dark Curse) as a really unpalatable target.

If you run into aces, then don't try and stick in wedge formation. Burst formation pretty much at the opening moment, because the more arcs of fire and potential blocks you can make your opponent keep track of, the harder time they'll have.

Have a look at the "death blossom" formation on Team Covenant. A bit over-dramatic, but the principle is very effective.

whatever you drop to free up 3 points for Epslion Leader over some poor bloke with wingman is more than worth it

I nominate **** device

Fickle,

I agree that Stealth Device is the logical choice to pass up if I want to upgrade to Epsilon Leader. He'd also be a better compliment to Howl because he'd draw some fire off of her. I currently am waiting to get a FA Core set until I see the new movie, but I'll keep this in mind for sure.

Magnus,

Thanks for the article suggestion! Unfortunately, work blocks all the pictures though. I had to use my imagination, but I've got a pretty good idea of how it all works.

This is not your work blocking pictures. Looks like Team Covenant is having internal server errors with photos on some of the blogs. All of Hothie's photos appear to be down. Maybe someday they will have the website fixed once and for all... don't envy them with all the web struggles they have gone through in the past year or so...

If you do an Image search for "team covenant death blossom" you can find some thumbnails of the pics that are missing from the blog. They are small and low res but good enough to see what's happening.
