Wave 3 announcement before Christmas?

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Armada

Sure wedges are iconic but they are boring after a point.

You seem to be confusing personal opinion for facts. Myself I'd much prefer it to keep the wedge shape as much as possible so my list looks properly Imperial on the table.

3-4 ships is not an Armada.

So? If you ever thought you could control a true armada of 20+ ships, you got the wrong game. This was never going to be more than a 3-5 ship game.

Understand the tourney scene is popular because people are ridiculously competitive people but there a host of people turned off by the game because of the tournament scene.

Those people have only themselves to blame if they don't get into the game because it happens to have tournament support. They are also going to be a much smaller number of people then the number who get into the game because it offers tournament support.

To be clear, there are going to be more people who don't play in tournaments then do, but very few who avoid the game completely because it offers something optional they don't wish to take part in.

They could have made efforts to encourage both is what I am saying.

And what exactly can they do to encourage casual non-tournament play?

Can you agree on the need to fill in the gaps at certain point levels

You mean like how out of 8 different ships, there's 8 different point levels? Can they add more low cost ships? Sure but until we know what is in wave 3 or 4 even, we can't say if there's a need for them.

the need for 500 point standard

No, there is no need to increase the standard point value.

the need to include a minimum percentage instead of just a maximum % on squadrons

No, the rules shouldn't force me to put something like fighters into my list.

Finally, someone who hasn't even played the game yet, has no way of knowing what the game actually needs. And no your mental exercises does not give you any real insight into the game, which is again proven by your complete and utter misunderstanding of what the meta actually looks like

Call me old fashion but people should not have to look up three letters on the internet because someone is too lazy to spell out what they want to say. Devolving into grunt communication is sad. I get the need for some, but these trend of going beyond lol and IMHO etc. is ridiculous. Just say what you mean. I don't many to carry around a dictionary to talk to kids. They need to grow up and learn to communicate like grown ups.

Right! We need to be looking up four letter abbreviations.

Get it done....this thing is alrrady [sic] stalled and I haven't even played wave 2.

Those grapes sure are sour, aren't they? No wonder you think fighters don't matter, the whole meta's changed. You can't get away with a fighterless list anymore.

I am rolling over and done with this thread. Sure people now have to run a few fighter squadrons to tie up the others. Big change. 2-4 whole squadrons an Armada does not make. Key word we keep missing in this game is Armada, not a few ships and four squadrons.

The number of letters was not the point, it is the new use of such a large number of abbreviations being is the complaint. Changing English in to grunts is something those of us over 30 will refuse to look up or be apart of using. Gutter language.

Again, you win...be content with your three ships Armada's flying a mere silly 2-4 squadrons. You win....clearly since you find that appealing FF will keep giving you more of what you want (the same).

If it were up to me, 18-25% minimum squadrons, limit one large ship, and 500 points. That would feel more like Armada and you could still have your tournaments.

The name of the game doesn't actually mean anything. If you thought this was going to be a game with 10-20 ships and 30-40 squadrons you got the wrong game, because that is not what this game is about.

clearly since you find that appealing FF will keep giving you more of what you want (the same).

Which is why we will keep giving them what they want, our money. Because they design great games we enjoy playing.

Again, I'm done so you won't get anymore from me. You can continue to throw rocks but I am done flinching. I have said my peace on the matter.

I was talking about a more standard 5-8 ships not something silly man. Come one.a game played in 2.5 hour game not attempting to replicate X-wing in speed or attention span.

There are a few fixed points in time to consider:

Episode VII releases on December 18, 2015.

Gen Con 2016 is at the beginning of August.

Rogue One, which pre-dates Episode IV, releases on December 16, 2016.

I would expect an announcement for Wave 3 sometime soon. And I don’t expect it to contain any Episode VII ships. I would expect Wave 3 to contain ships like:

Imperial

Arquitens aka Imperial Light Cruiser (Rebels)

Interdictor (Rebels)

Gozanti (Rebels and x-wing crossover)

Squadrons: Tie Punisher, Tie Defender, Tie Phantom, Decimator…perhaps even the Lambda-class shuttle (boarding actions?) and Inquisitor Tie

Rebel

GR-75 Medium Transport (movies and x-wing crossover)

Pelta (Rebels)

Old Republic Cruiser

Squadrons: K-wing, E-wing, Z-95, Ghost, Wookie Gunship (Rebels)?

As far as Episode VII ships, I would guess, if they are announced, it will be at Gen Con 2016 for a December 2016 release.

Or the Valor Class cruiser

That is a good question... At this point, without knowing what is in store for us after wave 2... What does Armada really need?

More commanders and upgrades is a given. As far as ships are concerned though, what would bring the most to the game?

More small and medium ships?

Carriers to boost the fighter game?

Special purpose ships with special rules like the interdictor?

Non combat ships that can buff other ships.

I know we all have wish lists, but what would best improve the game for all?

Reading the above thread as a casual gamer, I feel compelled to toss in my $0.02.

Do I find the tourney oriented design of the game ideal? No. In this game and many other, tourney play begets the stale meta. Does that mean I have to play tourney style? Hahahahaha!

I mean, uh, no. It my game. I bought it. My friends and family who play with me do not play competitively, and neither do I. We build lists on the fly, usually as part of setting up for an evening's game, then we play FOR FUN. Just because much of the community builds to the strict 400 of tourneys doesn't pressure me to do the same, and I've seen ample evidence on these forums of many others who play casually enough to vary the points involved in their builds. I've seen a lot of complaints about Ackbar, squadrons, etc., but alongside these, I still see lists using Mon Mothma and Garm Bel Iblis, so clearly Ackbar isn't such an auto-include as perceptions of the meta suggest. That, or people are just having fun and playing with things even when they know those things aren't the best.

Either way, cool!

We have an awesome game, thanks to FFG, and we also seem to have a great community of players. I look forward to seeing what wave 3 and beyond will bring, not because I'm looking to break the meta or anything, but simply because I love Star Wars and I enjoy playing a good game set in that universe with beautiful miniatures, and more expansions will only diversify further the playing experience.

Just because the game has a competitive (read: tournament play) edge doesn't mean that any of us has to play it according to the tournament format. It's a game. It's meant to be FUN above all else, and it is each of our choice individually to play our games in a way that is fun for us.

Strong agree, Marek! Don't like a rule? Don't play by it (though make sure your opponent's ok with that first). The FFG police won't bust into your basement if you decide to measure firing range plastic-to-plastic. On the other hand, no one's forcing you to play, either. Binge watch Extra Credits and try to put together your own game, the way you want to play.

Actually if you live in the Roseville MN area they might... Jimmy tried to do that one night and they broke in and clubbed him with a ISD, and those are kinda pointy.

Given how much they have announced episode 7 ships for x wings. I doubt we get any news on wave 3 any time this year
