Scyk Swarm vs Brobots

By dwhite87, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Played a game vs a top Aggressor player, Victor Robles, with my Scyk Swarm.

Wow! Two lists I love battling it out! I have to admit I was cheering on the Scyks. They need all the love they can get!

Sad to see that it didn't pan out.

Expected results obtained. There is no synergy between the Scyks. Just shows how bad they really are.

Hold on now. You're looking at one video of one list with Scyks in it against a local legend fielding a top-tier list and you want to draw a conclusion from that single data point that it proves that Scyks are bad? Not only that, but the choice of IG-88A made that a pretty bad match-up. Scyks may be a little underpowered, but there is a host of reasons why you can't conclude that from this one video.

1) Player skill - based on the OPs comment about Victor, it's clear he believes Victor to be the superior player.

2) Match-up - IG-88A was an excellent choice for this match. Four extra scyks meant 4 extra shields for Victor's list. I feel like A is a good pick at 5+ enemy ships, and that's exactly what Victor got.

3) Positioning - I think the Scyks should have swarmed more so they weren't all in the IG-2000's firing arcs.

4) List construction - You wouldn't watch an E-wing swarm get destroyed and say that E-wings are just bad. You know that Corran is an absolute beast. Taking that one E-wing can be great for your squad. Similarly, you can't say Scyks are bad when they are just spammed like this. We know they're fragile, but relatively cheap cannons. You need a list where target priority is an issue so that your Scyks don't get blown up one-after another and so you have more diversity in case of a bad matchup.

I think there are a ton of generic swarm-type lists that would have had an equally difficult time against this list. I'm not saying Scyks don't need help, but this video doesn't "prove" anything.

LOL, If I want a new person to win a game I use the Scyk.

What, you're telling me you've never won a game with Scyks? I've won a handful of games with them. They aren't auto-lose. I haven't seen anyone deny that they could use some more of the designers' attention. Even the most die-hard scyk fans admit that it could use at least a little something. But they're fun to take and they can do some amazing things if you give them a chance.

Never and I like my scum. I'm undefeated using a combo of Kihraxz, Y-wing and Z-95 but, have yet to win a game with M3-A.

I play at the local store with about 12 guys and never in tournaments.

Your are correct that they are fun and I have perhaps yet to use them to their fullest potential.

It was a very bad match-up but, I did think they stood no chance to begin with.

Nice chat and may good die rolls come your way.

Thanks.

You too! :D

Won my first game with them tonight. Armed them with flechett cannons and they worked well. Thanks for the continued encouragement.

Sweet! How many Scyks were you running? What else was in the list? (If you don't mind me asking.)

2 Sykes Serissu and a spacer both with heavy Scyk and Flechette cannons

2 Kihrazz Talonbane with predator and Graz the Hunter with Glitterstim.

opponent had 2 X65's and 1 X70 with missiles ect.

Kept all within R1 of Serissa. Turn 2 he managed only one hit on the Spacer. I shot down 1 X65.

Round three I moved everyone KT5 and got behind him. Game over

I rolled 12 straight hits and crits without a target lock or focus needed. Lady luck was with me.

I felt bad because I wanted him to win a game that is why I used the Scyks. I know you warned me. :)

I played against someone in my local community last week and he field three lowest PS Kihraxz fighters, one Scyk with a Ion Cannon and one Scyk with a Fletchette Cannon. You didn't want to get in front of that swarm. He beat me pretty handily but I'm pretty new and I didn't know how to fight a swarm yet. But at last night's tournament he got to the top 16 in a 56 player tournament that had a four round Swiss.
