Read that story, made me sad. f**k cancer. Wish Cancer was a living thing that could be stabbed in the face.
would definitely use it as an excuse to donate to cancer research.

Well, consider it an opportunity to apply Red/Green* Lasers to cancer's face.

As a cancer survivor and a casual player i would make the time to play in a charity tournament or buy a card/ship whose proceeds go to charity.

Opportunity considered.
I'll +1 wanting this.
I vote yes.
If this was going to be made into its own card I would like it to have a predator like ability for defense. A chance to reroll green dice! Kinda like a fighter against bad things.
We talked about this on the Nova squadron Facebook page and I suggested that the card be made available for purchase with all proceeds going towards cancer research.
This is a great idea.
Maybe R2-KT can be Rogue Ones astromech. That would be cool
Well the idea seems to have enough support I am gonna work on a campaign to make it happen. As someone affected by family with cancer several times I think it's a worthy cause and fitting as well.
Which brings up the secondary concern. You are now making a new card as a promo. This is something that FFG has avoided. Yes, it would be for a good cause. But, I really don't think it is a good idea to make a unique card that is only available through a tournament. There is a reason they are sticking to alternate art stuff.
An alternate art R2 Astromech card is a different matter entirely.

I have a little girl that means everything to me, so this is a pretty heart breaking story. I think the above is a great idea.
What if somebody just makes the card, sells it to us and donates the profits to R2-KTs charity. Who cares if it's tournament legal? As long as we're sure the money's going to the right cause, we'll buy it and have fun with it.

As do I, two of them in fact. I couldn't imagine something like this happening. Plus lost my grandmother, mother in law and my father in law is fighting it right now.

That is an option I have thought about while working on this today but I would rather try and go the legit route first.

Yeah, I have a little girl and I've lost family to cancer. Gets close to home real quick eh?
Imperial, huh? And yet an R2 droid, and a charity prize to boot, so you'd ideally want everyone be able to play it?
Never seen on a starfighter?
Battles on despite the odds?
How about an alt-card for this little guy:

A couple sneaky rules/balance notes: This droid is neither limited nor unique, so you can give identical rules and cost to a unique droid with a different name and it doesn't cause any FAQ-needing rules clarifications of "No, you can't use this and R2-D2 in the same squad even if they're different names", or whatever. If someone wants QT-KT and a WED-15 Repair Droid simultaneously, there's no gameplay issues - just a cute little pink droid helping out while full of energy. ![]()
It's canon in several locations that huge ships are known to become crippled far more often than outright exploding, too. (See also the Bright Hope and the emergency evacuations well after the in-game point it would count as 'destroyed'.) So one can even concoct theories that the plucky little droid that could might get rescued to boot; no death, only close escapes, if it would bother you to think otherwise.
Handed out in a charity tournament, perhaps. Breaking the usual design ethos of named cards having different mechanical effects from one another... but not changing game balance or game rules in any way in the process. Whatcha think?
Edited by ReiverI think the idea of a charity card or charity tournament event with the card as a prize is a great idea!
All behind a charity prize card: Just adding my voice to the choir
As a cancer survivor and a casual player i would make the time to play in a charity tournament or buy a card/ship whose proceeds go to charity.
You've heard of the X-Wing Campaign Against Cancer events, then?
Could pay a little extra for a coin that automatically granted initiative choice (unless your opponent had it, too, then the default rules were used, but heck - it was for charity!)
The 2015 coin with my list for the event here in PDX - a heck of a lot of fun, absolutely going to do 2016 when it's announced!

I think the idea of a charity card or charity tournament event with the card as a prize is a great idea!
I understand it is for a good cause. But it is a very, very, very bad precedent to set. Redoing the R2 Astromech with the colors is one thing. It is another to create a new card for this purpose. And quite frankly, it taints the idea. Especially if it is a decent card in the game. Because then you get people more interested in the card than the charity. Or, even worse, those more interested in reselling the card than the charity.
You don't need a special card or prize to have a charity tournament. Hell, there is a pretty big one fairly close to me that has happened a few times already. (which was just mentioned)

Which is pretty much why my suggestion was to nick the mechanical effects for a middling-use, non-unique Epic crew member.
You won't go playing for the card alone, and there's no balance or rule interaction issues (because it's original card wasn't Unique or even Limited, who cares if someone brings a mechanically-identical unique version along?), but it can legit be used in-game; the completionists might show up just to get one, but heck, if it's for charity who cares anyway, right?
... I thought it was pretty clever, anyway.
R2-KT[ASTROMECH or CREW] {3}
When you perform a red maneuver, you may recover one shield, up to your maximum.
When you do something stressful, R2-KT makes it all better.

Wait, we want Keyan Farlander to regenerate a shield every round he's got a shot, now? That does not seem... wise. ![]()
While I get the goal, it's much, much better to have any such card mechanically identical to already released stuff - this would make it an excellent charity prize, rather than a coveted upgrade in itself. I do get the desire to 'make things better', though - it's why I picked WED-15 to be the mechanical effect. ![]()
I would pay money to the cause if I had a little memento alt art generic R2 astromech for it. Just the same effect as an R2 but unique name would work too.

That could work too, though canonically I think the R2 in question ended up working with the Imperials - though a pink R2 would be cute too. ![]()
