I see a lot of fleets taking Rogue squadrons.
I would like to ask, will this be the start of a more squadron meta that mutates through a variety of changes over the next few months or will the use of Rogues be the start and finish of the use of Squadrons with many?
Squadrons
I anticipate an arc of popularity for Rogues and Squadrons.
At first, people will run lots of rogues, because they wildly overestimate how powerful the ability is.
Following this, standard squadrons will start to show up more to counter unopposed rogues.
Then, they'll realize how utterly obliterated their rogues get by standard fighters activated in the ship phase, and they'll fall out of favor.
Finally, we'll land somewhere at a sane balance between standard squadrons activated by ships, and the occasional Rogue to mix things up or enhance a particular strategy.
I've found that Rogue is only really good when your opponent has brought little or no squadron presence of his own. Other than that they need backup or they're just points pinatas.
Mutant, squadron meta for sure
Rogues have increased my confidence in getting the most out of my standard squadrons. They also help me add flex to my list by taking the burden off of my carriers needing to command so many squadrons. My Squadrons have seen more use since Sullust.

Quit saying things I agree with so often. I'm not accustomed to agreeing with someone so much Tvayumat.
It's unnatural.
who knows?
as a rebel, primarily, I don't really care that much about Rogue as all we have is the yt-2400 and Han.
I do, however, really like how Dash and 3 yt-2400s and compliment a Squadron-incapable list (ala MM Cr-90 + Shrimp spam) and allow for far more variety in fleet building and on the table

Never much thought in that direction, but there are some fleets that will struggle to make any good use of a Squadron Command. For those fleets Rogue will be the start and finish of things. And this, as you point out isn't going to be all that predictable.
As an imperial its nice to actually have multi role options that are self sufficient.
I have a limited amount of R&V ships, so naturally I'm not inclined to overload them. At least yet, right now I see them in support for my mainline cheaper fighters if I were to think about a fighter list. Specifically this is Dengar with other fighters, or YT-1300s as escorts for B-Wing flights.
I think the only ships I'd be inclined to take pure from R&V are the YT-2400, Firespray, or Aggressor. Firespray's probably the best rounded of the three, rolling two dice with bomber and the YT-2400 and Aggressor having four dice for AA and some other advantages. However I also wouldn't be surprised if these turned out to be overpointed next to Wave 1 options (like massed TIE Interceptors or A-Wings).
When it all settles, Intel ships will find more homes in lists than anything else. Just my 2 credits.

Then people will start adding Escort to protect them.
I also expect people to go R&V crazy.
Each R&V squadron has a purpose. Jumpmasters and HWK's provide your squadrons the capability to move out of unfavorable engagements or allow squadrons like Mithel to activate without the need of an expensive upgrade like Chiraneau. Oh, and they allow you far more use of your Rogues like Aggressors and YT-2400's.
Firesprays are now one of the best bombers out there. It is damned expensive for that capacity.
H-6's are now a better Y-Wing in a sense but are more expensive than a B-Wing for the small bonus of speed and Grit.
Bossk, Han, Dash, and IG-88 are all anti-squadron mainstays that pay a price in their expensive costs.
I feel people will miss these important bits and go crazy. Then we will have people complaining about how they don't work.

When everyone runs rock, the player with paper rules the world.
Rogue's nice but I'm much more worried about Dengar/Howl combos & unkillable B-Wing flights protected by Jan. I'd say combo potential will have a more lasting effect than Rogue splashes.
Will folks overplay them initially, yes. I think their main impact is to add lots of variety to the lists out there in the future. They will add to the already "cheap" vanilla squadrons but if played too heavily I agree that they'll be piƱatas.
That said, Boba Fett is a real jerk and can do some serious all around damage for 26 points.
Edited by CaribbeanNinjaThe Silly H-6 speed boost over the B-wing is actually 50%. distance 3 is half of distance 1 + 2, and that translates into a lot more ground covered
the problem is Heavy and the missing blue die. You don't know how much you miss it until you see people stop trying to run the gencon special

The Dengar/Howl Ball will run side by side with the Rhymer Ball. Add a flight controller and you can one shot almost any squadron. If they survive that the counter will get em.
Edited by cynanbloodbaneI'm more worried about that counter - with my dice luck, counter 4 will result in my snubfighters comically exploding after rolling a pile of accuracies. Best defense is a good offense & somesuch.
Thats if they survive the 6 dice the Interceptors are flinging on a Squadron activation.
