As someone who hasn't gotten to play epic yet, what is the problem that the Gozanti fixes?
It has upgrades that make you totally re-evaluate all the previously released Epic ships. Seriously fun stuff.

Huge ships are _very_ expensive- the Raider and Corvette are usually built at about 120 points each. As a pure gunship, neither of the units has enough energy to fire all their weapons every turn. This means that you are spending a lot of points on ships that are simply incapable of doing their primary job. A related problem is that Huge ships can't use focus tokens (ignore the single edge case here). This means that their guns throw out a lot of dice- but those dice aren't actually very accurate. The way to mitigate this problem is with a gunnery team. Gunnery teams cost energy. And they can only be used once per round. And you can only put one of them on any given ship. You can also use Quad laser cannons, which... yup. Costs energy. I can't stress this enough: Huge ships are _starved_ for energy.
So enter Optimized Generators. "Once per round, when you assign energy to an equipped Upgrade card, gain 2 energy." That's basically an extra 2 energy per turn. That's a nice bit of extra energy. That's enough to fire an extra weapon* every turn.
The other thing the Gozani has is a modification that lets you use ordnance instead of the standard hardpoint weapons. Ordnance doesn't use energy at all, so that frees up quite a bit for defense and repair, allowing your Huge ships to last longer.
And finally: the Automated protocols should help action-starved Huge ships to get a tiny bit more action efficient.
These aren't huge buffs, but they are small and efficient tweaks to a class of ships that need them badly.
*I'm super simplifying the process, because if you've never played Epic, I don't want to confuse things.
It sounds like your question is less "which should I get" and more "which should I get first"? If that's the case, I'd say: Gozanti.
The Raider was FFG's way to fix the Advanced. That was something well understood and widely discussed. The Gozanti is FFG's way to tweak and buff basically all the Epic ships. I wouldn't _quite_ say it's a fix. It's more like what Rebel Aces brought to the B-Wing.
The biggest issue that Epic ships have is energy use. The Gozani offers 2 fixes for this. Epic ships are action starved. The Gozanti offers a fix for this as well.
As of right now, no epic ships can act as carriers. The Gozanti _is_ the fix for this (We all have our space prawn fetishes.)
I love my Raider. It's an amazing ship. But if you get the Gozanti first, it will bring with it many more options for the Raider than you would have if you go the other way around. So: Gozanti, then Raider.
This is how I feel. If I were to splurge on an epic ship today, I'd go for the Gozanti and come back for the others later.
I say Raider for one reason.
It's your first huge ship and first intro into epic play. Once you've had a chance to use the Raider a bunch, you'll appreciate and love the "fixes" the Gozanti offers so much more
But this point of view also makes sense.
Yet another thing to consider: how many points-worth of ships do you own? If you're going to have trouble getting up to the standard 300 points for an epic match, you might be better off going for the Raider because it will fill up those points faster than the Gozanti will. Not that you want to just throw a bunch of upgrades on, but you might want to check out the squad points of each and see which one will be easier to build a 300-point list around.
Edited by BudgernautThe Gozanti leaves more points for starfighters. You can also field 2 Gozantis in an Epic match. Well you also can take both a Raider and Gozanti in the same list.
Epic for me doesn't quite feel like Epic unless you have a Raider or Corvette out there but that said there is no right answer for which first.
IF you are planning to play Epic competitively and must field a huge Raider/Corvette ship you probably won't want to field a Raider in an environment where people have the upgrades from the Gozanti.
More TIE's the better.
I just finished putting fiber optics in my Raider, so I vote save up for both. Imperial ships are sooooooo sexy.

do you have some pics of that? I plan to do the same thing, but have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE how to work the electric stuff
didn't stop me from ripping it apart open it, though

I plan on putting pics up as soon as I can take some.
My advice for people who haven't opened theirs up yet:
1) Hold the port/starboard solar panels BELOW where they connect to the spar they're mounted on and yank them gently but firmly straight out. They are actually clamps that hold the top and bottom halves together. I didn't and nearly brained myself when the first one broke and the second slid out on its own. I gleed the first one, it holds just fine, but yeesh. Hey FFG, please ship these things disassembled?
2) For those of you who've opened your Falcon or other ships, the old trick of running an X-Acto blade along the rim to break the seals is the best way. There's only one problem area back under the bridge, but it's pretty smooth. The bridge nub pulls right off. I didn't light it (my reason: in Rebels the Arquitens bridge windows are always black) but you might want to.
3) Fiber optics need to flex, and will break if you just glue them in with CYA glue. I found this out the hard way and had to re-drill several window holes. I plan to use nice, bouncy silicone for when I do the Gozanti.
4) You can light it using the Powered Play Games 9V lighting kit (if you have no experience soldering, like me, they're great b/c they're plug and play) and buy a coil of dirt-cheap fiber optic from Amazon. You can even cut a dash out of the belly and drop the on/off switch right in there with no trouble. Off of the basic board I ran 1 white LED each for the port and starboard lights, and 1 LED for each tiny engine+half the big one, leaving me one plug left over... but thanks to doing my 40k Imperial Knight previously I was out of red LED's for running lights. (sad trombone). This would have run FO cabling into the top plate, which honestly would have been too fiddly to fuss with every time I needed to open it up to change out the battery. The FO in the lower section were fragile enough as it was.

I agree with this. It was my first reaction as if you want to play Epic (or Cinematic), then you will want another attack ship. Having two will just be awesome.
Then, I recalled the cool Epic upgrades in the Gozanti.....oh....they change the game for the better....
I would say go for the Raider first and proxy the upgrade cards until you can get the Gozanti. Either that or go with whatever your other friends don't have.
I would vote Raider.
It feels the most epic with multiple big shots a turn, and although the energy might be an issue, blowing Miranda away at R4 or R5 with turbolasers is very satisfying. Also, the cards in the raider for standard play are extremely Empire themed (THE Emperor and major Vader buff). You just need a single Tie Advanced to have vader (not sure if you have that yet or not).
Also, there is a side option with the Raider. If money is tight, and you don't plan on getting more than 2 Tie Advanced total, you can sell two sets of Advanced X1 title and Advanced Targetting Computer online. A lot of people either can't afford the Raider, or have no desire for epic. But, a lot of those people really want the Tie Advanced cards out of the box, like a lot. So, you could probably get $20-30 (USD) back after selling half the Tie Advanced cards off online. Just an idea.
Im going to choose the Gozanti, because I like the it more, and I just printed the Emperor and The Tie Advanced fixer cards.

Getting 2 Gozers no matter what.
My problem is I know if I got one Gozer, I'd probably get three. With six Tie Fighters already, that would be a full swarm with enough Gozers to carry them all.
If you listen carefully you can hear my wallet crying
But one Gonzo will give you 8 Tie's for a full 100 pt swarm. That's where I plan on stopping.
