Flying tips for this 100pt Rebel Squad

By tonycanevaro, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Hi Everyone, I'm pretty new only having played 4 games so far.

Played one game with my own squad which is:

Etahn

-R2D2

-Advanced Sensors

2 - Blues Sqd Pilots each with

-Engine Upgrades

-Proton Torpedoes

The first time I flew this list I really didnt understand Etahn's ability so I started him on the far left hand side of the board and my two B wings on the right hand side.

My opponent was flying a talon, a HWK with turret, a b wing and a y wing with turrets. I learned a lot about turrets ;)

I was able to take out his HWK and A wing before losing. I had his Talon down to 1 hull as well.

Since this game I switched my list to:

Etahn

-R2D2

-Engine Upgrades

then I'm debating adding either Marksmanship, proton torpedo or sheild upgrades to Etahn

The two Blue's Get Proton torpedos.

Thoughts on how to fly this list? What would make a good formation that will use their dials well together?

Setting up a play mat and flying around with no opponents is only so good for practice ;)

Tony

To be honest, I don't think the E-wing pairs well with Bs. The E is too fast and manoeuvrable for the B's to keep up with. Also Engine Upgrades on B wings aren't an optimal choice.

Etahn's ability means you don't need Marksmanship, and shield upgrades are generally considered sub-optimal upgrade choices by most. Personally, if you want to take Etahn, I'd just take him with minimal upgrades. Maybe R2D2 to repair the shields. If you're not to hung-up on taking Etahn, I'd steer you in the direction of

Corran Horn

Veteran Instincts

R2D2

Fire Control System

If you like Bs, I'd say the only upgrades worth considering are Advanced Sensors, Accuracy Corrector or Fire Control System. All are good for different reasons. My favourite is the Fire Control System. Another option is to use the B-wing/E2 modification to give them a crew upgrade slot and use Tacticians.

Well to be honest, these are my ships. I have a y wing x wing and a falcon besides the ships listed. Other than tweaking the list I'm really looking to learn how to fly and play.

So I'm looking for tips on how to fly this list until I have more ships to play around with. Thanks for every piece of advice I can get though!!!! Thanks!!!!

If that's all you have you will obviously be hurting for upgrades. Paul Heaver once said he would never take a B-wing with out advanced sensors. Fire control system is also good in the meta.

Just play games and learn the dials. Practice formation flying and general movements. You will learn more playing.

I suggest taking the falcon with an engine upgrade along with the B-wings.

Keep in mind I have played many games where I only had one copy of a upgrade card but multiply ships used it.

What do you mean multiple ships can use it?

For example I only had one copy of AS when I used two b-wings in my store tournament list. I set the upgrade card between the two B-wing pilots cards and let my opponent(s) know that both ships had the upgrade even though I only had one copy of the card. As a result, both ships cost 25 points All of them were cool with it.

Huh. Cool beans.

When I've played Abaht, I've put him outside the formation as a flanker, too, and it can work very well since your opponent has to split his forces or choose which element of yours to go after. The key is making sure that whatever your B's have shots on is also a ship in Etahn's arc.

Playing in a local store tourney tonight and cant decide. (I'm not ready to run the falcon yet, never even tried to fly it)

Etahn

-R2D2

-Fire Control

-Flecchette

-Veteran Instincts

2x Blue Sqd

- Adv Sensors

- Proton Torp

Or just swarm and fly lots of ships: (there is 29 damage needed to kill these...)

Biggs To draw fire and keep other alive a little longer

2xBlue Sqd

-Fire Control Systems

Y - Wing

-Dutch Vander (target locks are good right?)

-Autoblaster

-Flechette

Argh. Waiting until christmas for more expansions is going to kill me.

Well, went 1-2 with the one win being a total luck job modified win against a top 100 finisher at worlds. (We started late and I was able to take out his palpatine shuttle for a win on points.) he would have destroyed me if we would have a little more time.

Got obliterated by 4 Y wings with twin lasers then played a decent close match but lost to a Coran 2xT70.

I ran

Luke with R2D2 and Veteran Instincts

2xBlue Sqd B wings

1xGold Sqd Y wing with ion turret

Lots of practice needed to figure out how to stay in formation and anticipate where the opponent will end up. Had fun though!!

A 4 ship rebel build is a solid list for your first tournament. There are so many things to learn as the strategies in this game go deep.

The trick is learning how you like to fly. Are you a slow defensive type (go B-wings, Y-wings), are you a fast striker (go A-wings, or Falcon with boost), are you a formation flyer (go X-wing, Z-95). There are so many pilot and upgrade options that there is no way to cover all interactions. Pick the ship that you like to fly and fly it. Mastery of flying your own style of ship can help you learn how to anticipate opponents movements and judge distances.

I suggest you hit up the pinned links in the main page for advice threads. After that, I have some Strategy sessions you can look at. Just go to main x-wing page and search for "Strategy Sessions".
