everybody who thinks he's not good enough: please remember his pointcosts. a very good price.
anybody who's still claiming that he's the first thing to die: yeah, he will. easily.
but it's one more round my howlrunner is alive, or whisper/soontir etc running wild..
wampa will not go to the trash-bin.
You can't really build lists around him, he is too fragile for that. I mean if you look at Soontir, you can build a Palpmobile list tailored to maximize his impact on the game and survivability. Thererfore i really like the Palpmobile list with Wampa on top posted earlier.
But even if you just run him with no combo pieces, in a list that has 14 points to spare, he is probably never a bad investment. Most adversaries have at least one ship that must fear his effect. And if not, so what you still have a Tie Fighter with PS4 for 14 points. Like a BSP just with a Pilot ability.
But i think it's in Howlrunner Swarms that he will come to himself. And if its just to draw fire away from Howlrunner at the worst! At the best he will kill a ship 3-4 times his cost.
By the way the people that state how impossible a shot on Soontir or Corran is... Think again. It doesn't matter if it's a Range 3 shot through an asteroid or how many tokens he has. The only thing that matters is getting a critical hit. And the sheer possibility of you getting lucky can change your opponents gameplan quite a bit. If you need to avoid every shot Wampa that's gonna involve some awkward flying really. It's different from arc-dodgers needing to dodge just the most dangerous shots. Because any shot from him is as dangerous as the others, except that he can improve his odds by getting to R1 or some help from Howl perhaps.
And having a cheap but substantial threat is really nice.
