Star Wars risk anyone?

By Jaden Ckast, in X-Wing

Sorry I know this is obviously not the right forum for this but just curious if anyone has tried the new Star Wars risk? Blasphemy I know but has anyone tried the new version?

I haven't tried it, but from the reviews I've read, it's Risk in name only (which I'm fine with). It's closer to an older Star Wars game called Queens Gambit (which I'm also fine with).

I have it, but have not played it.

Meh. For a mass market, cheap board game it might be OK, but nothing really to write home about.

It includes a bunch of little plastic star fighters in it. for some reason the X-Wings are a totally different scale than the other fighter. Interestingly, I think those X-Wings are pretty close to the same scale as the X-Wing CR-90 model.

Ok interesting, was thinking of picking it up and trying it out. Board game geek gave it a decent review too. Seems like they sped up the game a little bit too with some of the rules.

To their credit, the designers have posted some clarifications and answers to questions on BGG and hasbro has officially approved them.

It's probably a perfectly fine game. Certainly for as inexpensive as it is (the black edition is of higher quality, but I don't have that one). if you have someone who would like to play a game but who avoids "hobby games", it's probably a good fit, just nothing that I, with 30 years of gaming under my belt, can get excited about.

It is nothing, absolutely nothing, like Risk. This and Risk are both board games, that is where the similarity ends.

I keep wanting to run a Risk campaign where the battles are played out using miniatures. I have to wonder if a Star Wars Risk would be a good candidate for something like that using X-Wing Miniatures.

Edit: Based on the review vid posted above, I'd say that you could maybe do it if you scrapped the Vader/Luke fight. Run Imperial Assault for Endor, and X-Wing for the ship battles. You'd need a bunch of TIEs, X-Wings, Y-Wings, and B-Wings to make it work, though, and special scenarios for attacking the Executor and the Death Star.

That was the main reason I bought the game, I figured the board might be useful for tracking progress in a multi-system campaign.

Still haven't worked out any specifics though.

Ya I watched a few vids now too and the ship battles are way different from standard risk. I wonder if maybe you could house rule that aspect where you roll dice on defense too? Make it a little more risk like.

The lack of defense dice on all three boards makes it less of a dice game and more strategic.
