Is Nera tournament worthy?

By jackal13, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been flying Nera at local tournaments and have not done very well. My build for her is usually around 40-42 points. At my last tournament I went 1-4 with a modified win and flew her with 2 T-70's Red Sqd. Veterans with crackshot and AT. I was talking with my opponents and the con census that we all came to was I need my opponent to have to make a more difficult decision on which ship to target. With my current Nera builds its a very easy decision. So I've come up with the following list and need some feed back cause I think Nera can be a viable tournament pilot, and I just love flying her and her ability is just awesome.

Nera w/ sensor jammer, plasma torps, EM, deadeye, b-wing/e2, recon spec

Airen Cracken w/ swarm tactics

Gold Sqd Pilot w/ R3A2, TLT

Bandit Sqd. Pilot

I usually fly her with adv pro torps cause I love blowing stuff up, so I put plasma torps on her so I don't have to get in range 1 and can peel off the shields of heavily shielded ships. Airen shoots first passes action to Nera, probably target lock or barrel roll if needed, Nera shoots 2nd from swarm tactics, uses deadeye for pro torps and TL from Airen to modify. In the past this has been my issue. Her 5 pilot skill means she shots late unless I face PS2. Gold will limit my opponents actions and bandit used for blocking. Let me know what y'all think. Keep calm and fly casual.

Nera is GREAT!....for casual games. Shes easy pickings at tournaments which is why I think you may be frustrated with her results. looking at your collection For 42 points id rather have two rookie xwings or set up a kwing with a z95 or awing

NOPE! :D

keep your eyes peeled for Wave 8, though. Both the inq Tie and jumpmaster have modifications which promise to work with ordnance, making deadeye Nera maybe an actual thing

Lord I hope so. I love the thought of her 360° torpedoes plus Deadeye for bagging high PS arc dodgers.

I just feel like that list doesnt have enough firepower. Its all counter.

This is my style

B-Wing: · Nera Dantels (26)

Deadeye (1)

Extra Munitions (2)

Plasma Torpedoes (3)

Sensor Jammer (4)

B-Wing/E2 (1)

Recon Specialist (3)

Z-95 Headhunter: Bandit Squadron Pilot (12)

YT-2400: · Dash Rendar (36)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

· Chewbacca (4)

Consider this, for that 42 points you spent on Nera you could have a K-Wing piloted by none other than Miranda with 3PO, a TLT and an extra shield. The extra shield comes in for me when I pair her with Super Dash and I have 5 points. So she's actually cheaper, more survivable and more useful turn to turn than Nera.

I wish I could make a useful build with Nera. I really like the thought of her pilot ability. But she's too many points when you build her out to hit hard. and even then it's only a few torp shots and you've now got a B with PS5 that cost you a lot in whatever list you have her in.

Never sink too many points into a B-Wing, they go boom so quick that the loss is too hard to make up.

However, if you must use Nera, try this:

Poe with Predator, R5-P9 & Autothrusters

Nera with VI, Adv.Sensors & 2 Flechette Torps.

Two Tala Headhunters.

99pts.

Poe is too much of a late game threat to ignore and has very consistent damage.

Flechettes being range band 2 - 3 and Nera being 360 means that action dependant ships such as Interceptors really want to go from Range 4 to 1 before Nera can even Target Lock. If they don't, they are taking a stress as you don't actually have to hit with the Flechettes to cause an Interceptor to bug out. This will make Poe's life easier as normally, an actionless interceptor is a dead one or at least going to run away for a turn to regroup, this could potentially be the break Poe needs to either kill them or regenerate some lost shields depending on the state of the game.

VI could be swapped out for Crackshot if you REALLY want to ensure that your first flechette hits home but I feel PS7 is quite nice to take advantage of Adv.Sensors. Nera doesn't mind bumping into someone to ensure less shots at her if she is able to target lock someone else at range 2.. The PS also makes it easier to fight Dash.

The two Headhunters are PS4 to counter low PS swarms and TLT spam. Against high PS aces, they go for blocks once Nera has stressed one of them out.

Agreed. Flechette Torpedos are very nice weapons for her; cheap and tactically useful. Veteran Instincts is probably less useful than Deadeye - not that Veteran Instincts is bad, but jumping from PS5 to PS7 doesn't really do a lot for you - you already beat the generics and still don't catch the aces

Advanced Sensors is nice - it means those torpedos will always be live, even if she pulls a red manoeuvre.

Thanks for all the advice. I have a lot of builds to try out. I'm not going to give up on Nera in tournaments because I believe she could be competitive, plus she is so much fun to fly, and that is what this game is about. I have a tournament this weekend and wil post my battle report on Sunday. Wish me luck. Stay calm and fly casual.

Whilst I agree that the push from 5 to 7 isn't overly significant in the Imperial camp, I see a lost of PS6 Aggressors and PS7 Dash so I think it would be important t have that extra PS to capitalise.

Granted, Flechette won't work on Dash but PS7 and Advanced. SENSORS would be enable greater flexibility in securing the donut hole with Nera as well as the bump IGB, shoot IGB tactic that costs them the game.

I do agree that deadened has its place with Nero though, not many other pilots can really use it.

I like trying to build around Nera, even tho yes an expensive b.wing is not great in a tourney .. I enjoy sensor jammer a lot, but switched in my latest version of my Triple D.s build :

Y-Wing: · "Dutch" Vander (23)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

· R7-T1 (3)

X-Wing: · Garven Dreis (26)

· R5-X3 (1)

B-Wing: · Nera Dantels (26)

Deadeye (1)

Ion Torpedoes (5)

Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6)

Advanced Sensors (3)

Advanced sensors worked awesome in my previous game, the droid on Garven is part filler, part maybe it happens, and part shiny new droid to try out ..

Good luck this weekend and have fun!

I've flown Nera at 39-42 points before with Deadeye, E2, Rec Spec, Extra Munitions, and Advanced Proton Torpedoes. Advanced Sensors also.

Either she conveniently got nuked by aces before getting a shot off, or my opponent would boost his Soontir into range 1, only for him to dodge all but one of the 5 hits. Only for the same exact thing to happen next turn, except with a luck Direct Hit bailing me out. Then my Z's couldn't deal with the 3 remaining AC Advances.

Perhaps pairing her with something other than 4-5 Z's would be better. 42 point Nera and 58 point game ruining Super Dash? Ugh I can't believe I just suggested that.
