Any sites like Battleclinic out there?

By MonkeyInSpace, in X-Wing

hey all,

I'm still getting a feel for the game but, having played EVE Online for a long time, I was used to having a site like BattleClinic (amongst others) where there would be suggested loadouts that were voted on and/or discussed and/or critiqued. I know there is the Squad Lists forum and have also seen the awesome newplayers starter-guide for building, but that's not like browsing different lists and viewing point costs so you can mimic/tweak and I was wondering if there are any sites similar to what I'm describing so I can start to get a sense of what other people are using?

thanks!

there are.

and for beginners I would advise: forget about them for the moment.

take a naked barebone-list and learn to fly; learn where the different manouvers carry you, how to avoid the roids, how to guesstimate where your opponent ends up.

once these things settle in, try from there with good and simple lists. build on these etc.

then it makes sense to see what others build - and then you're ready to see -why- they build them that way and get behind how to fly that.

yes, the game has dice, but it is a skill game for a much bigger part. and skills have to be learned, as in any other game/sport/musical instrument/hobby/younameit. ;)

Just lurk, read what people say.

THERE IS AN ENTIRE DEDICATED SUBFORM FOR THIS.

I appreciate your perspective and am doing a lot of the former - after the wife & kids are in bed, I have been playing/theorycrafting a lot and watching YouTube videos galore. What I'm short of are opportunities to play against live opponents and so if you can assume I'm following your advice, could you please mention the sites you say exist? thanks!

As mentioned in the original post, I am fully aware of that and am taking full advantage of it, I'm asking for additional ways to receive and absorb data. This is potentially hard to believe but people learn in different ways. AND YOUR CAPS LOCK KEY IS BROKEN, BY THE BY, OR YOU REALLY LIKED YOUR COMMENT.

This site has lots of lists and results. Might help you.

That is precisely the kind of thing I am looking for. Thank you very, very much.

has a lot of great links for EVERYTHING.

try the list juggler, for example.

Thank you again, I have devoured that voraciously, looking for other stuff to broaden my knowledge. Great guides on that thread, it's great that it's sticked - I learned a ridiculous amount from that in my first few weeks.

I use this to build lists:

http://xwing-builder.co.uk/build

It always tells me how many times a particular list has been built by others. What I'm not sure about is whether it allows you to browse popular lists. Anybody know?
