Wave 2 Tournament - Vader's Strike Force

By Mundo, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hi all,

So I have a wave 2 tournament coming up in a few weeks. I plan on using my wave 2 goodies of course, and really want to build a list that uses Vader's ability to best effect. I am also aiming for maximum synergy on my objectives.

Here is the list below - grateful for feedback!

Vader's Strike Force - 400pts on the nose

Imperial-II Class Star Destroyer

- Vader

- Avenger

- Electronic Countermeasures

- Gunnery Team

Gladiator-II Class Star Destroyer

- Demolisher

- Engine Techs

Gladiator-II Class Star Destroyer

- Insidious

Raider-I

6 x TIE fighter

Objectives:

- Most Wanted

- Hyperspace Assault

- Minefields

The general plan for engagement is: ISD flanked by Gladiators in echelon or spearhead formation, using Demolisher to soften up a target before Avenger lets rip and burns through any exhausted defence tokens. I haven't spent much on weapon upgrades as Vader is my tool to get the rerolls for maximum damage. The Raider acts as the 'trailer' to finish off any weakened enemy units and/or as the objective ship for most wanted. Insidious would be used for Hyperspace Assault.

The objective I am least certain on is Minefields. Probably would use this to funnel the enemy into the flight path of Avenger or prevent Rebel conga line tactics.

Sorry, those should be Gladiator-Is in that list. My bad!

I like it, you could also use the Raider to help your fighter screen. Since Raiders have some really potent anti-fighter dice. You could even double-tap one fighter if you had the Impetuous title on the Raider.

Thanks for the feedback. I am trying to keep the Raider as cheap as chips, so that I can use it for my 'most wanted' ship. It will also be there to act as the 'finisher' for any wounded enemy ships that slip past the wall of Imperial and Gladiator star destroyers. Good call on the anti-fighter role, makes the Raider extra useful to have!

Yeah, I only have one Raider right now.. I feel I may be picking up another sooner rather than later though.

With Vader as your admiral, you should be mostly concerned with putting as many dice as possible on the field, and playing to the strongest arcs you have.

With that in mind, Rapid Reload is a great addition to Vader Glads in the same way that Expanded Launchers are a great if expensive addition to the Vader Raider.

The Avenger is kitted nicely. The only thing that would improve her is the addition of SW-7 Ions to make up for when they can't spend accuracies anyway, but then Vader's re-roll will probably mitigate that.

Good call, it is tempting to trade some TIEs for rapid reloads on the Glads. That is a scary amount of black dice, especially with concentrate fire. Add a reroll and that is brutal.

I also love SW-7 ion cannons, but since I am paying for Vader's reroll ability I figure it is probably overkill. Avenger and SW-7s combined are a really potent combination, especially if you dropped a cheeky overload pulse on the target from your Raider-II first.

After firing off a great deal of Rapid Reload Gladiator broadsides with Ordnance Experts tonight, I can confirm that their average damage is 6-7 out of the side arc.

Not half bad for such a maneuverable ship.
