Wyrm rises

By Scorpionis, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Hi everyone.

We played TSR campaign & have some question about Wyrm rises scenario

Can I open doors during my Overlord turn with my monsters that have been already active?

Because of quest book says only that I can't activate monsters behind closed door, but nothing about that I can do this with active monsters. So what is true:
1. OL can open 1 door for free (withoun an action) at the start of his turn + open doors with his active monsters to free another groups, so he can open 2-3-4 doors at his 1st turn (with playin a Dash card for example).
2. OL can open only single door for free at the start of his turn, & so cant open more that one door each turn.

Thanks

Looking forward seeing the answer on that question. Same situation, and we cant continue our campaign!

You can only open one door for "free" at the start of your turn. This allows you to activate that group of monsters. If those monsters can open another door (which is an action monsters can normally do) then it will allow the group behind the second door to be activated as well.

There is no prohibition on the normal monster opening of doors, and the only requirement about activating a monster group is that its door must have been opened already- no requirement as to by whom.

That being said, having played this quest very recently, I found it beneficial to make the heroes open the doors.

Dear Zaltyre,

Can You explain what do You mean? " I found it beneficial to make the heroes open the doors. "

Do You mean that it is better to give only heroes posibility to open the door?

or

Do You mean that it is imbalanced to give ONLY heroes an opportunity to open the door?

Why there is statemenet in quest rules that heroes can open doors normaly?

Thanks in advance!

1) I mean I preferred to make the heroes spend the actions to open the doors. There were a couple with good ranged weapons, and I wanted to avoid giving them easy lone of sight to my master monsters.

2) There are multiple examples of redundant/ needless instructions in the special rules of this campaign. I chalk that sentence up as one of them. The writers were probably just trying to make clear that the OL's free start of turn door open did not negate the other normal methods of opening doors.

1. Did u play this scenario with " hero can open a door for free at the start of hero's turn "?

No. We played with "OL can open 1 door at the start of his turn."

It Would be great to learn the official answer of Descent developers.

No. We played with "OL can open 1 door at the start of his turn."

So I dont understand your " I mean I preferred to make the heroes spend the actions to open the doors". Your heroes spend an action to open door as normal?

Instead, I chose to use the freed monsters to attack the heroes (not open doors.) In this way, I got a sizeable hand and won the first encounter, though the heroes still managed 3 master kills.

As in, even though I could open 1 door for free and have those monsters run and open other doors, that is not how I chose to play. I chose not to play that way because opening the other doors would be doing the ranged heroes a favor (performing one of their actions for them.)

Got it.
