I've thought of a Tie fo/ defender list. Seeing that A; someone did it, and B; It worked, is awesome.
Ode to joy or how Biopysical made my day - A Defender Story
Maybe call me crazy but i did not even one game in advance with this list. All i did was just measuring a starting position to put Rexler in a good spot behind the Zetas and a few opening engagements just to think about what to do. And it actually worked to surprise my opponent to fly the 1 or 2 bank instead of the just so obvious k-turn he tried to block. The results seem to speak for themselves.HLC Defender already costs like Games Workshop miniature range, and you slapped a Hull upgrade on?
Awesome results, Taiowaa. I'm pretty much happy to talk Defenders any time. How much practice did you get with the list before you ran it? In competitive events in the past, I've found my familiarity with Defenders has been a huge advantage, but we didn't talk that long ago.
Wow, major props for taking a list like that into a tournament cold, and succeeding.

You can read about my experiences with the same list here, if you're interested.

Vess has a lot of new friends out and the ADV. prototype on the way makes it even more attractive.
Well actually a buddy of mine said a few minutes prior the turney to take Vessery instead of Mad Rex because, and i have to admit i think so too, vess has the better pilot ability. But my decision was set and despite the fact that Rex only pulled his ability once the whole day he won me 2 games. Once for his ability on Jake for a double hit and the other was against IG88B not firing back after getting killed, which would have happend if it was Vessery and thus resulting in a draw.(because my opponent just asked if we could roll the dice to see what would have happend)
I'm happy for ya, you had fun, won a tournament, took it down.
Just accept it's not built with defence in mind and go in aggressive.
Only way to play them. Should have been called the TIE Offender, really.
Don't you know?
The best defense is a good offense....
I'd also go PTL and mk.ii I've been playing it with great success rex having two actions makes him a real threat because you've an excellent chance to get a couple of hits through with HLC then flip them with his ability.
Even without HLC you can put him in a three aces build and he`ll wreck face.

And it's all good news, until you get splattered with stress! Predator hull, or lone wolf stealth, are less dependent on a free action economy. And We're seeing the rise of the stress lords at the moment... Defenders are pretty good at dealing with stress, it's a shame to pay so many points to make them vulnerable to it again...
Mk.ii gives you ten green moves to clear stress and you'll be one banking more than anything else to keep yourself at range.
You don't tell fel not to use PTL because there may be stress, part of the skill of this game is knowing when to use PTL and when not to.
If your just taking rex for his ps8 then sure go predator, if you want to reliably use his ability PTL and mk.ii will see him crippling the enemy.
It's sort of the FCS vs AS debate for Corran. They both let you do some pretty great things, but they will play differently.
I played in a 150pt Aces-Only (Named Pilots) tournament a couple weeks ago. A friend of mine took Vess and Rex with a couple other ships for support. He destroyed a lot of lists and made the cut to top 4 before he unfortunately had to leave early. Defenders can really surprise a lot of people who write them off quickly. Certainly they are highly vulnerable to certain match-ups, but it can wreck others. Good job and congrats.
If Attani Mindlink really is a 3 point EPT, that has everyone equipped perform a free focus or evade action when anyone does (the current reading-behind-the-card), what are yor thoughts on using it to give Vessery or Rexler a Tie Fighter's Focus and Evade?
Hypotherical list: Colonel Vessery, Master of the Universe
Colonel Vessery (35)
Attani Mindlink (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Black Squadron Pilot (14)
Attani Mindlink (3)
Colonel Jendon (26)
Emperor Palpatine (8)
ST-321 (3)
Total: 99
the BSP escorts Jendon and works as a TL bank, allowing Jendon to use ST-321 on 2 targets, and Evades every round to give Vessery an evade. Palp is also primarally a defensive upgrade.

Stressed, both iterations suffer, but ptl more so.
Running on normal, Rex gets the extra hull, they both get reroll (predator limited, of course).
Ptl build benefits the most when seeking to shed stress and when barrel roll is required.
Predator benefits in his relative resistance to stress, a higher baseline damage even if bumped, and a significant boost to survivability (1hull behind 3 greens).
It's close, but I prefer predator on a hlc Rex, and ptl on him with no cannon.
Actually, I prefer him lone wolf and stealthed, but that ain't no good in a busy list ![]()
